Kamenashi & Yamashita New Unit Formation

It was announced that KAT-TUN's Kazuya Kamenashi (19) and NEWS' Tomohisa Yamashita (20) will form a new unit called "Shuji & Akira" for a limited time, and they will put the CD single "Seishun Amigo" on the market on November 2.

The name "Shuji & Akira" are the character names of Shuji Kiritani (Kame) & Akira Kusano (YamaPi).

Next sentence is about how Johnny Kitagawa came up with the "Shuji & Akira" unit name on the 20th at midnight, and how he decided to make the name sound like a comedy duo.

Apparently both Kame & YamaPi were very surprised by the choice, asking "Is that really our name?"

A parallel is drawn with Toraji Haiji, also a duo unit made up from members of two different JE groups; Toraji being Taichi Kokubun of TOKIO and Haiji being Tsuyoshi Domoto of KinKi Kids. Then there are quotes from both Kame & YamaPi which didn't translate well...but Pi said something to the effect of how it's going to be very different from anything he performs as a member of NEWS.

The coupling songs for the single are "Colorful" by YamaPi (from his drama "Dragon Zakura") and "Kizuna" by Kame (from the drama "Gokusen 2"). Each of them wrote the lyrics for their respective songs.

The last paragraph is something about how they're going wear the clothes from the drama...school uniforms again?...to perform the song on the TV programs, and it's like they're asking (or being asked?), "Do not you dance easily in this uniform? What shall we do?" The article concludes with the emphasis that this song will be different from anything you'd expect from KAT-TUN or NEWS...and that they hope to gain new fans with this unit.

It was one surprise that Kame & Pi were cast in this drama, but it's quite a surprise that they're going to release a CD together! And too many fans are interpreting this the wrong way. No, Kame & Pi aren't "debuting" as a duo! This is a *one-time* collaboration for this drama, just like Toraji Haiji. As such, I don't think anything is going to happen as far as KAT-TUN or NEWS at all. I'm pretty sure their group activities will continue like before. And remember, Johnny had stated that there would be no formal debut in 2005.

I haven't been able to find listings with the online retailers yet. But this article was just published, so I figure it'll be a day or two before anything appears with CDJapan or anyone else. I'm pretty sure it'll be on the Johnny's Entertainment label. I'll be back with that info when I get it .
