news_jpopI can't believe I couldn't even bear listening to NEWS' songs now... It just makes me so sad...
Tried to concentrate on my studying but my hand wandered off to a magazine on the shelf that caught my eye. Oricon style from march 2007 when NEWS came back out as six after one year of hiatus.
The words Pi wrote kinda gives us an idea of what he's thinking now I guess, but it makes me all so much more disappointed now when I read it again, and of course the happy faces of those six gathering and working together after separating for one year is something we can only dream of from now on...
Here's the comment Pi gave at that time:

I have polished my courage to stand up and go on alone (after this period). It was a big thing to gain so much experiences from all the things I've done. Especially the experience with GYM. It seems that since now that NEWS won't be able to bring him to new heights and he's had a confidence boost fron his solo tour he's ready to leave.

I actually have a life and thus wouldn't respond if anyone tried to argue with me lol. because fighting over the internet is dumb. I just wanted to speak up and show NEWS (current and former members alike) that I still support them. <3
and then I had a really clever divorce analogy XD but I'm all annoyed at lj now so it wouldn't have the same effect. it sounded good, though! along the lines of instead of bitching and whining about mommy- and daddy-NEWS getting a divorce, us fan-kids (rofl I'm older than some of them, but whatever...) should try to understand that it doesn't mean they don't love us anymore.
...yeah... summing it up makes it sound dumb. imo, at least. *shrug*

Date: 2011-10-09 12:07 am (UTC)It's not even that we don't respect yamapi, hell if ppl did not respect him they wouldn't have supported him ( I mean those who are not particularly Yamapi fans but NEWS fans, which includes me) would not have supported him on his solo tour and solo releases. I guess all of us had this feeling that Pi might go solo but we didn't mind, just like there's tegomass in NEWS and there's Ryo in K8 , Pi could have just done his solo whilst staying in NEWS, we all know that's entirely possible and that's also why they having to clearly cut themselves off from this group that makes us so damn heartbroken.
NEWS fans are all used to the lack of activity in this group, the lack of group commercials, the lack of group appearances in variety shows, the lack of group shots in magazines etc, but at least we got to see them in those magazines, we get to see those group based interviews and little member ai stuff here and there, we were not greedy are mean fans, we just wanted them together and we trusted their leader.
Then of course, all has happened has happened, and it's all official now, so of course there's really no point in hating or making yourself all fussed up and pissed etc, in the end we have fell in love with some living ppl and not an object and should have know they each have their mind and decisions. But then, I agree very much with many other fans that we deserve a formal press conference and explanations from themselves as a last respect to their fans.
But being Johnny's I don't think this will happen so well....
I personally ain't a Pi fan but just a NEWS fan that wanted to support their leader when he went solo, so I'm sorry to say from now on I won't be interested in what he does ...

Although *for example* it is just me, but what will happen if there are 200 fans who have the same decision with me... XDD

Date: 2011-10-09 05:53 am (UTC)But looking at how things have been for the last year or so, Yamapi and Ryo dont have anything to lose by staying in News in name only, Its News thats gotten held back, being in News hasnt stopped Yamapi's solo album and Asia Tour, Ryo's had two drama leads, K8 concerts and heaps of singles, albums and new dome concert soon and a bunch of K8 tv shows. But while Ryo and Pi are still linked to News, News itself cant have any activities without them, Tegomass could (and has) as a subunit, but not News itself (which is pretty much Koyashige).
News didnt have the popularity to go on without Yamapi back in 2006 when Yamapi released Daite Senorita and Tegomass debuted, But I think they can now. This year is Tegomass's third concert tours, Koyama has News every and Shige's been in some good dramas and stageplays. I believe the 4 of them could be awesome, they can make songs reminiscent of 6 nin news, that a duo cant no matter how good their vocals are and maybe have opportunities for something new, in the quirkiness of Koyashige and their solos PVs. (Totally wishful thinking... I know its not feasible) but isnt now the best time for Kusano to return to News and Uchi to return to Kanjani8?)
I dont blame Pi at all, I might not follow his solo career, but wish him the best. It was right for Ryo to leave at the same time, he cant keep up with two active groups forever, esp with how much work Kanjani's been getting. Its a big blow to lose a third of the members at once, but theres no point in having 4.5 members and having the same constraints holding back activities.

Date: 2011-10-09 06:25 am (UTC)I've been whining why Pi and Ryo couldn't just stay in NEWS and do nothing like they're doing, at least we'd get to see them in magazines and stuff... But you're right, it does seem so now that if two members are so inactive, it would only be detrimental to the other four ppl, of course if they really forced themselves to, Pi could do the group and solo at the same time, and Ryo could still work his ass off running between two groups. But ya, if their heart is not to it, or they could hardly manage it, then it's all the better to let the other four go on their own.
I'm kinda happy after reading your comment, it feels that Pi and Ryo had been considering about the other four when they mad their decision and that makes my heart swell a little.
I want to believe this is nothing out of selfishness or quarrels between members ( I dunno why some ppl are saying it's becoz Ryopi hate each other ... Aww come on, Ryo still mentions on a regular basis how much he's seeing Pi despite the nEWS inactivity) , so this definitely makes the fans happier I hope.

Recent interview translations seems to mention a lot members from different groups hanging out in private, esp Kanjani guys it seems(with Toma and News). I'll miss the group interviews, I love hearing about how much Pi and Ryo mention each other and how they still go surfing at 2am and stuff, I think they really have a good friendship.
I cant comprehend why people are blaming Jin though. I dont really know much about how the kat yun fans reacted to it. For me, I think its just that Jin was first to do it, because it worked out, the agency has more confidence in marketing Yamapi this way too. Just like how Ryo was the first Johnnys' to have his own solo concert, since then, most of the debuted Johnnys have gotten to do solo concerts too. I think its sweet that Pi and Jin would be able to help each other, having been through the same experience, or like the time Ryo asked the audience to support Jin during one of his concert mcs.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:27 am (UTC)I love Kanjani a lot too and u can see from them how strong bonding can make a group really strong, they were so insignificant and considered second class Johnnys initially being from Kansai and singing those relatively not mainstream style songs, but they've made so much so much progress in the years, lots of creativity with their productions and expanding their variety and audience, their hard work and togetherness have impressed so many ppl and in the poles and stuff many vote them as the group with closest bonding, the group they'd like to join etc. ( ok too much k8 in a news comm) anyway, what I wanted to say was, I'm glad Ryo is part of k8 and I'll support them and especially Ryo with all my heart now! Just like how Ryo is devoting his all to k8. And when we think of K8 we'd understand how NEWS was struggling very hard to stay together, as much as they're frds , basically 4 real good frds and 2 senpais that are close frds, we have to admit their bond was never as strong as many other groups that started out in juniors as a group already. It's a pity they couldn't stay forever but the years of happiness and tons of wonderful songs and concerts are things we'll never forget!
Gosh... I feel like I've been forced into a process of growing up from this incident!!(ok so I'm not that young tho). My mom was like, o so even your favorite group has grown out of themselves, shouldn't u grow out of fangirling!? And for a moment there I did think about all this time I've been insanely buying their stuff and going to concerts and screaming for ppl who don't even know me really... Was it time to wake up and start living a realistic life!!? But in the end ... I just can't fall out of love with them, and I want to continue to love them forever!!!!!

Earlier today I was commenting on another journinal about k8 bond and news group dynamics. I totally feel the same too with what you're saying about News being more like 4 good friend and 2 sempai which are close friends, how they had been thrown into the group a bit randomly when they debuted.
Dont give up on fangirling if they still make you happy and excited and insane!. I used to be very very attached and invested in the story and characters in Naruto, I'm kind of sad that my love for it have dwindled before the manga has ended :(

Nishikido loves music and is good at the guitar. On stage he showed of many sides of himself to charm 15 000 fans. Also at the end the news members all appeared on stage. (Ryo saying You surprized me... when did you get here?" in video clip). They celebrated his first solo concerts with him."
Theres also a longer vrt from a variety show of Ryo talking about it with clips of him tearing up at the concert thanking the fans. I cant remember which one, I hadnt downloaded that clip.
Hmm, maybe there was another program like Mezamashi TV that covered Ryos solo con that mentioned he was first. I have a vague memory of someone saying it on tv too.
Perhaps it is a different type of solo concert. I dont know much about the sempai, just that Kinki Kids is a group of only 2 people. I'm pretty sure Ryo's solo was before anyone in News, Kanjani8 and Kat-tun though. Everyone in Kanjani8 (except Hina) had individual solo concerts sometime. Ueda and Nakamura mentioned solo concerts/ individual stage plays during the Queen of Pirates concert MC on the dvd.

A solo song now and then is great enough for me.
What saddens me most is we'll probably never get to see Ryopi on stage together again, I loved their interaction, the jumping into embrace , the hearts with either hand, the pulling weird stuff out of hair ( Music station scene) etc etc, I really love those together, and that's what I miss the most I guess.
Sigh... Really must get myself out of this misery tho, life must go on.

i also believe that koyashige-tegomass were also preparing or being prepared to be a 4 member news for a while as well like the variety show they did about running around the cities etc. why yamapi and ryo never showed up in those episodes etc.
i think there was gradual planning of prepating koyashi and tegomass as a unit and making them to activities together. have koyashige-tegomass visit tegomass's concert etc. all a part of a bigger plan. also perhaps koyama taking the leadership of the 4 group was also something he prepared for.

Koyama has news every and radio show. Tego and Massu has TegoMass. It all happen last year I think that the members are stable in their work. They have individual works as well as group. Last 2007, Pi is the only one who doing well. He had GYM. had a drama, release a single and a movie. But how about the other members? And Ryo is the only one who doing something. But the remaining four are on the back sit.

I'm not making it melancholic or even making Pi as heroic. I just want the FANDOM to know the other side of the coin. My thought may not true. But one thing I know and that is YAMASHITA TOMOHISA LOVES NEWS. NEWS IS HIS HOME. HE DEARLY LOVES ALL THE MEMBERS. and I guess all the fans saw that. right?

I also think it's totally okay for fans to be upset and angry, it's still so fresh. I'm sad but not wildly dissapointed.
But so far I still can't escape that Pi said all those things to the fans while knowing he would probably leave. Maybe at that time he thought it wouldn't be that way? Then so be it.
But he has to remember too that he is where are today not only because of himself (I don't think he actually truly believes that), but because the fans support him. In their industry the fans mean everything. So it saddens me that he does it the way he does, talking about NEWS as a step towards something more, nothing less. Wasn't it even worth an apology? Hopefully there will be one, show your group and the fans the respect they've earned.
Well, well... I will still respect him for taking such a huge step towards his dream. I hope he'll be happy. As well as Ryo and the remaining of NEWS! ^^

Well in the Live!x3 concert they joked about a Koyashige debut, maybe they can really do that now!! Their songs would be incredibly special amongst other Johnny's groups and that might actually make them a big hit! Who knows!? Maybe would even sell better than Pi's solos LOL, cos I'll definitely support them!

Until he properly apologizes I can't 100% be at ease. He makes himeslf look like a selfish douche a bit, and I totally do not believe he is. That's what's sad.
It would be awesome, but unfortunately I don't think they would survive. Or maybe they would, but become famous enough? No, it's too much of a stretch. As much as I love Koyashige they are too unknown and don't sing good enough.
But I wish them all the luck and I hope we'll be able to see them more now! :3

Date: 2011-10-09 02:09 pm (UTC)I dunno what Pi is up to really, he doesnt even update his Nikki now which he used to everyday, it's almost like he did it just to impress fans , but now he doesn't have to anymore that kind of feel.
Anyway I've given up thinking too much, let's just hope things only get better from here.
And koyashige , I'm thinking they'll probably be doing radio shows and dramas etc more than making it really big in music .
I'll support them anyways.
O I never went to koyama's mom's restaurant in the end !!! Awww... Heard she sticks out the NEWS stuff, and tons of NEWS fans leave their souvenirs and stuff... Must be hard on her too. Did u read koyama's Nikki on oct 7? Kinda sad... But at least he's not hiding from the problem like Pi is :(

Date: 2011-10-09 02:20 pm (UTC)I wonder what goes on in Shige's mind now? His self-esteem was never that good. Well... It's kind of bad. He always thinks the worst will happen, and he even said that before the LIVE!LIVE!LIVE! concert (during spring) he thought of leaving NEWS. When he came back he realized he was very happy and still wants to be there. He also always has the feeling of "preparing for the future" just in case. Then having the least fans (probably) and not being that known. I feel so bad for him. The other's too. That's why we'll HAVE to support them somehow!
I think they'll work as a subgroup, but on their own? Sure, Toma has no group nor has he debutet in any way, but he's a special case. And a lot more famous. It would be really tough for Koyashige to stand on their own two feet. Maybe they can do as Tegomass? Have that AND NEWS?
IF Koyashige disappeards though, as I've said before, it will be hard NOT to blame Pi in the least. If that happens he will be responsible too for ruining other people's careers for his own gain. Hopefully this NEVER EVER happens. I won't think about that anymore.

Date: 2011-10-09 04:46 am (UTC)It is clear that Pi LOVES his fans and loves being in NEWS, and appreciates everything that being a Johnny's has done for him and his life. I don't think he regrets it or resents it.
I AM NOT saying I know what is in his heart, but it seems pretty clear that this is Pi's dream. To be his own artist, write his own songs, be his own person.
It's hard being a Johnny because no matter how much input you get in a song or concert layout, you're still seen as being part of that agency and not an original artist. It's easy to see that that is what Yamapi wants out of his life.
He is a PERSON, with goals, aspirations, and feelings.
Yes, you can feel betrayed, because he told you to wait for NEWS.
But when you tell him you're his fan and supporter, but aren't even willing to think of him as a human being, doesn't it seem like you're betraying him?
He has just as much of a right to pursue the happiness and life that he wants out of the world as any other person does.
He's in a very difficult position because he has responsibilities to NEWS fans and there is so much history of love and support there, and to go solo he has to leave that behind. It's obviously a very difficult decision, with a lot to weigh out. How can you possibly blame a person for ultimately following their heart and trying to make themselves happy?
I think people need to think of NEWS, yes as a Johnny's band, but also as a group of people.
Would you want two people dancing on stage, singing songs, but ultimately feeling unfulfilled in their life? Would you want fake smiles, covering up hearts that are full of sadness, regret, and fatigue?
It's painful, and I am mourning 6nin NEWS just as much as every other NEWS fan.
We can be sad for what has passed, but to blame people or hold animosity or a grudge towards them is simply wrong. In doing so, you are not thinking of them as people, but objects whose only responsibility is bringing you happiness.

Date: 2011-10-09 06:14 am (UTC)Well you're right, of course it's everyone's right to follow their heart and dreams, nobody is saying that he's WRONG, there's no right of wrong in this situation, maybe the 4nin NEWS became a bit hit without those two and topped the charts or whatever, or even sold great in America ! Nobody can really say that there's absolutely no chance of that. So there's no right or wrong here.
Fans have the right to be disappointed and feel betrayed ( of course if you're only a yamapi fan some might even be grateful I dunno ....) because as much as Pi having every right as a human, he is a celebrity, a public figure. So when u make decisions, it's not just their own decision it involves a lot of ppl, many ppl still think Jin sucks or is a bitch becos he ditched his team and did whatever he liked, ppl like togetherness, like Friendship. And thats why ppl feel upset and betrayed, because we trusted the leader in keeping everyone together . I'm sure no fan is against Pi going for his dreams, on the opposite they supported him a lot even when he was part of NEWS and doing that.
And no, I don't think from very long ago Pi had the ambition to pursue western style music, if u look back at his older magazines, he had black eyeliner, wears wine red blouses , that was much more like a Japanese host style image, in fact, his much more american casual style was after he joined NEWS, and he evolvement to his newest style was just the recent few years, so it's not like NEWS had tied down his dreams all these years, he had equally evolved through being here, that's also what he said in his comment .
I'm sure you're a big Pi fan disliking the idea that ppl are holding him responsible and some even expressing hate. Well, that's just the package that goes with being popular and rich because of his fans, unlike normal ppl on the streets he's responsible to not only himself and his family , but a wider population of people .

many ppl say that yamapi meant what he said last year when he will still remain with news, but if something could changed so quickly as w 1 year. thats too convenient for an excuse. im sorry, but im just disappointed cos i always believe he's honest to his fans and true to them, and really happy to know him in news.
whatever the case is, believe that the rest of the NEWS members will succeed beautifully, and i see it as a chance for all 4 of them to TRULY shine.

I think they will continue to be supported by fans but... They lost their two sexiest members. It sucks. I don't even like NewS' music but I watched their concerts because of their good looks (Shallow, I know) and now they're gone... Oh well.

I usually don't like to interfere with other people's translations, but the last part seems to have been misunderstood and is causing a little mistrust towards Yamapi. I have asked rike-chan's opinion as well (another translator I know and trust) to be certain that it's not my mind playing tricks on me or being biased.

Besides that, I'm sad about Yamapi and Ryo-chan leaving NEWS, too. But I wonder if this will on the contrary help Koyashige shine more. On the other hand, I wonder if Tegomass makes any sense anymore XD
