Kadokawa Publishing created a website for Shige's novel, here's the link and what it says~

I've always loved people. I want to know them and get to know myself through them. This was the curiosity that pushed me to write a novel. I'm truly happy with all my heart that it took the shape of a work all mine.
Moreover right now it's a moment of new starts. The change of my name was a turning point as well, I strongly wish that all this will turn in something good for NEWS too.
This novel was a serious challenge to me, I hope that a lot of people will read it.

Yes, he changed his name or better, he changed the way his name is written. Now Shigeaki is in full katakana. Not a big change, ne? ^^
He will keep this for all his activites, both as solo /writer and NEWS member :)

Anyway yes, he changed it because his name was rare and few people could read it right without knowing him. So he chose katakana so that lot of people could easily read it :3

the book sounds really good too. I wish i could have read it.
about the name change thing, i don't really know a lot about the Japanese langauge/writing system, but why is it Katakana and not Hiragana? (i'm assuming it used to be in Kanji but suddenly not sure if that's write either :/)

Yes, it used to be in kanji but it was a rare name so most of people can't read it if they don't already know his name ^^ About the katakana/hiragana...I guess it's just an estethical matter, Shige always liked to write his name like that and katakana since the origins is considered more men-like. Just guessing though :D
