Chankapana PV directed to foreign fans?

Hey guys,
I guess we have all seen the Chankapana PV by now?
So there are a few things I was wondering about and I would like to get your opinion.

I'm really curious about whether the whole PV is a message to the foreign fans or whether this is a start to promote Johnnys more in foreign (American/European) countries?
I mean, WHY do they have the whole introducting part with english subtitles?
And above all: WHY is the English so good? I mean normally Japanese don't really care about the language and just spell words wrong for example. But those subtitles are so accurate!

Also, the PV is really westernized. I mean, sure, we always had Western girls in Johnny's PVs
(for example Kanjanis "Wonderfull World!!" or KAT-TUNs "Don't you ever Stop") but somehow I feel like this time it's different. Because here, even people who don't know anything about NEWS and Johnny's in General could watch this and find it funny, I think. So is the whole PV a try to reach foreign fans?

I mean, JE is opening up to foreign fans, with the foreign newsletter and the possibility to get concert tickets for example. AND there is also the fact that Tegomass went to Sweden once . . . so do you think that they maybe want to push NEWS more towards foreign fans? It could be a good time since the two most popular and famouse members in Japan, Ryo and YamaPi, are gone now, so maybe they want to try something new with NEWS?

Maybe my imagination went a little bit too far but I think the whole thing is worth a tought :) I really would love to hear your opinion too! So let me know in the comments :D

I do think the same.. moreover JE will produce Chinese group idol. I think it's a sign from JE to go international. So let's wait until at least JE will accept international fans as their fans club member

Yeah, I guess the newsletter was a step in the right direction.
I would love to know how many people actually subscribed . . .
I guess the majority of people is from Asian countries so it would make sense if they produce a Chinese group.

And I'm all for accepting foreign fans as fan club members!!

speaking of the foreign newsletter, johnnys international mail.
I haven't even seen NEWS mentioned in the newsletter, at least not for the last couple of months, which actually surprised me considering the album and single releases, not one single word mentioned.. (Oh the irony that I actually ranted about this in my lj today xD)

I wouldn't say no if they did try to push NEWS out in the world, especially since I'm still disappointed about Tegomass being cancelled in Sweden because of the flu outbreak some years ago, but I hold no hopes for that and I think the PV is just a PV, but I like your train of thoughts! :))

the same thing happened to you as well, as in the newsletter part whereby news is never mentioned in it? for once i actually thought that maybe i indicated the wrong group of interest when i signed up for the newsletter. lol. ==;

I was thinking about that as well, but I wouldn't really chose another group since News is my favorite so.. yup..
Feels like they only report news about tackey and Hej! Say! Jump there. :o

My thoughts exactly. The mails listed singles, albums and DVDs being released in June and July, but NEWS got skipped. Both times. Is there some kind of subliminal message here???

I got so annoyed I stopped subscribing to Johnny's International.

I dunno, maybe they think there are more fans for other groups? ^^'
But then again, NEWS isn't the only group ignored when it comes to the mail.


I've been considering doing the same, it feels kinda pointless to subscribe to it when I can't get any news about the ones I'm interested in. :/

Yeah, the cancelation of the Tegomass-event was so disappointing. I actually just bought a ticket to Sweden to see them!
But I still hope that they will come one day again.

I know there was people who did that and I felt so bad for them. I live in sweden so it didn't really cause any problems for me, I guess I was a bit luckier.

I was even thinking of trying to send a mail to just ask WHY they're totally not talking about NEWS in the Johnny's International mail :3

If I knew where to send it, I would do that as well. I've been wanting to do it every time I open the newsletter and nothing is mentioned about them.

Maybe they only promote the younger ones(except for Tackey then...)? -__-

I wish they could promote all the groups instead of just focusing on just a few in the newsletter, right now it feels really pointless for me to subrscibe to it. bleh.

This is pretty much how I feel right now. I mostly care about V6 (single next month, heard nothing via it yet), TOKIO (with an album and a tour happening, we've heard nothing from it), and NEWS, so every time I get a bit excited, and every time it's either Hey!Say!JUMP or Tackey... Yeah...

It started off so well, and then it just seemed to die and turn into a pile of terrible. Sad really. :/

I wouldn't give it much of a thought, this kind of PV is so typical in J and K pop, they always seem to find a way to push some foreign models in their PVs... what I do agree on, is that it's really a good time to launch an international career for news... call me crazy but I think NEWS have a better shot now as an international group , than they would be if P and Ryo were still here... I'm just saying , as an international fan, these 4 nin have a stronger appeal to me than the other 2 (personality wise) even though I'm a devoted Yamapi biased :)

Yeah, I absolutely agree! I somehow really like them as a 4 member group. Maybe before the four of them where always kind of "overpowered" by Pi and Ryo, although those two didn't really do much, but they were always the "stars" I guess. So we will see where this is going :)

the first time that came to my mind was that, "Yay, no need to translate this~!!"
I'm not sure if it's directed to foreign fans. But I think NEWS members know they have foreign fans, who would come to Japan and seek for them without having to extend themselves out. I personally think that it's too risky for Japanese artists trying to reach out. I mean, the area is too vast. Probably there are many foreign fans, but their homebase is too widespread and difficult to pinpoint which country to aim.
I'm still happy, though, that the PV turned out that way. It's cute, and full of stereotypes.

erm... not sure if you've watched the making yet, but this PV is totally NEWS's concept, nothing to do with JE at all...

the boys know fully well they have international fans, and i guess this is their acknowledgement to us... to tell us they know we're supporting them and to say thank you to us too!!!

i sincerely believe him when tegoshi said no other idols love their fans as much as NEWS does... and for this i am eternally grateful and would follow them to the ends of the world...

Well, i've read that Tegoshi saw one of those videos from fans (a time ago there were a lot of fan projects for bringing NEWS back.) and I think that now they realised about the international fandom. Besides, I don't know if Shige got to know that many international fans filled up Kadokawa's Mail Box asking for the translation of Pink and Gray and he read Giulia-chan's (SpilledMilk@Livejournal) e-mail.

But what really cracks me up it's the fact that the subtitles have quality, really accurate.

Yeah, like I said, the good quality of the English subtitles got me curious too.
'Why is this proper English?!' I thought XD

So maybe they really took the effort from international fans into account and wanted to thank us this way :)

I swear that when i listen to NEWS or any other J-music i try to forget that i know english, to improve the experience XD
