  • Koyama wrote about filming for his drama and shared a story about borrowing chilli oil from Tama. He also mentioned that NEWS is doing a lot in preparation for their 15th anniversary, asking fans to wait and said that he wanted to see the other members. At the end he said it was his mother’s birthday and wished her a happy birthday.

  
  



• NEWS RING (27 Sep)

  
  

  • It was Massu’s turn to update this week. He said he’s been having enjoyable days with Netapare and Soredame. For the theme, he chose “Ame” (candy) and talked about the candy he usually eats before singing. It’s not that easy to find, and he doesn’t like how it leaves a slight colour on his tongue. He will continue taking lots of care so as to sing better.

  • He shared how he heard someone saying  a shop has “delicious kinki from Hokkaido” and thought it was funny so he wanted to share it (kinki can refer to both a broadbanded thornyhead and the Kansai region in Japan). He’s also been receiving lots of messages for “Marumaru” and would try to reply them soon.

  • Koyama updated quickly with a picture of his bag of personal items he brings to drama filming and to congratulate Shige on the opening day of his play.

  • Koyama posted a photo of the sign of their dressing room, and said he could meet the members today (they had a recording for SCP today, according to the email last week from JFC).

  
  

• Shige’s play began 30 Sep at The Globe Tokyo. The Tokyo performances will be on everyday but Friday till 22 Oct. It will then be staged at the Kyoto Gekijo 4 - 8 Nov.




• Massu was mentioned in Yamapi’s radio show on 27 Sep, when he was asked who’s of the soothing type in Johnny’s. “Massu. Hands down.” (Source)




• An article posted to the site Modelpress talked about the press conference on September 30th that Shige attended for his play Green Mile along with his costars, Kaito Baruto and Onodera Akira. It mentioned how this would be the first time Stephen King’s famous novel would be made into a play, not just in Japan but in the world. Shige is quoted as saying, “When I first heard [that I would be doing a play] I was looking forward to it, but the moment I saw the title I thought, ‘There’s no way it’s that Green Mile,’ but upon opening the script I realized it was and to be honest it’s a heavy responsibility. This will be a world first, but I feel that it makes such a perfect play that it’s strange that it hasn’t yet been made into one.”
  
  The article also mentions how some of Shige’s friends have begun calling him ‘Shige Hanks’, and Shige said that although that’s referencing the movie version, the play it’s own separate work, based on the novel rather than the movie. He also talked about how they all created their roles together, discussing what direction to take and he’s had a lot to think about this past month regarding the play’s subject matter, the death penalty. He said that while he doesn’t have an answer, the important part is to keep thinking about it. Since Japan does have the death penalty, he hopes that the play will cause more people to reconsider it.
  
  Shige was also asked if he talks about that kind of stuff with the members and he said, “I don’t talk about this kind of deep stuff with the members, but today flowers from Koyama Keiichiro arrived. I did kind of wonder if it’s ok for him to send flowers under his own name though (laughing). But I knew that he’s sent them to NEWS members before, and I’d gotten them in the past before too so I think inside his head it’s an established custom.  I was happy to get flowers in purple, his member color. All the members have said that they’ll come watch.” (Source)
