    • The first message was from a listener who plays the koto in her club at school. She talked about how she loves the club and they work really hard on songs and performances, but after a performance the superintendent spoke to them and said something that pissed her off, “You all really spend a lot of time on music, don’t you?” She felt like he was mocking the time and effort they put into their music. She wanted to know how Shige thought about it since he’s also passionate about music.

Shige said that since he didn’t hear how it was said he can’t say but that it’s possible that he was trying to compliment them. But even if that’s the case, since it upset her, he should have used a different phrasing since the meaning did not get through. He said that if you have pride in what you do, you should be happy just with that and not worry about what others say. He said even now he has moments where he thinks “What did you mean by that!” and feels hurt, but it can’t be helped and you should refocus that energy into more positive things.

Shige said that he thinks that there’s nothing stronger in the world than music, nothing can move people like it does. He said it was ok to just think that the superintendent doesn’t understand the world and that he understands her feelings.

    • For music club this week Shige talked about how in the broadcast of the radio that aired right after 24hr TV, he still didn’t know who the runner was, and how it’s like how star light that we can see on earth now is from thousands of years ago. In the same sense, he wants to talk about the collaboration between Ozawa Kenji and SEKAI NO OWARI and for him as of recording this it was only announced a few days ago. Shige was there at FUJIROCK when he announced and performed it on his own, and he really liked it. Shige said that he was surprised to see that it was SEKAI NO OWARI that Ozawa Kenji would be collaborating with on it and that right away he thought that they would sound good together. He said the sound is very SEKAI NO OWARI but when you look at the lyrics they’re clearly by Ozawa Kenji. He said it was his favorite song from the festival and that he thought that the theme had similarities to ‘Ayame’. Shige played the new song, ‘Fukurou no Koe ga Kikoeru’ (I Hear an Owl).

    • After the song ended he continued to talk about it for a bit saying how the arrangement and intro was really good and very like SEKAI NO OWARI.

    • Shige said that recently he hasn’t been to see any movies and has been thinking that he should watch DVDs of older movies. He said there’s a play that he really wants to see and it’s been a bit of a hot topic lately so he chose a message about it to read.

The message was from a listener who said that she goes to see a lot of plays because her mom has taken her since she was an elementary schooler. The first play she ever saw was by the troupe Gekidan☆Shinkansen, and she asked Shige if he had watched the ‘Season Tori’ version of their play ‘Dokorojou no Shichinin’ and if so she wanted to hear his thoughts.

Shige said that had seen a version of that play one time a while ago, and that he thought that he’d like to see Season Tori, but then Yamauchi Takaya, who he starred with in his play ‘Naka no Hito’ was going to be in the Season Kaze version. He was a huge fan of him even before they starred together, and when they starred together he was so interesting, knowledgeable, and cool. When he was to star in the drama ‘HOPE’ with Nakajima Yuto (Hey!Say!JUMP), Shige told Yuto that Yamauchi was a good guy and that he should get to know him and they did. So when Shige and Yamauchi were getting dinner together they called Yuto to join them and ended up eating out the 3 of them. Since he’s heard a lot of behind the scenes stories about the play from Yamauchi he really wants to go, even though his schedule is really busy right now. Everytime he sees Shinkansen he thinks about how he’d love to appear in a play of theirs. He talked about how this time, the play is becoming a topic of conversation because the audience seats move. He said that the play ‘Dokorojou no Shichinin” has a lot of the same fun as Mad Max.

    • Massu was the guest this week.

    • K: It’s gotten a lot cooler out, but our guest today is in short sleeves. It’s Masuda-kun! M: It’s still short sleeves season. K: You know, this morning I went to film my drama wearing this, and I was cold. I thought wearing short sleeves was a mistake. M: Ah. (standing up) K: How rare! You’re not wearing shorts! M: I do wear long pants, you know. Isn’t it cute?

Koyama described Massu’s pants saying that they were a camouflage military style made of a lot of different materials. Massu said he bought them and Koyama asked if he was going to make clothes and Massu said that he doesn’t have any desire to have his own brand or anything like that. Massu likes to pick out pieces he likes and coordinate them more so than designing his own stuff.

Next Koyama talked about how recently Massu appeared on 24hr TV, 27hr TV, and Music Station Ultra Festival, and how Massu was the only NEWS member to appear in all 3 of the programs. Koyama brought up the pheromone showdown performance on Music Station and asked Massu what he thought of it. K: Did we win? M: We won didn’t we!

Massu also questioned the choice of ‘Chankapaana’ for a pheromone showdown, and Koyama added on to that questioning the choice of ‘Chumu Chumu’ as the song used in their group introduction. Massu said that ‘Emma’ fit the theme of sexy pheromone more than ‘Chankapaana’ or ‘Chumu Chumu’. They also talked about how they played around with some of the lyrics in performance, and how Massu changed the part where he usually says ‘Yakusoku suru yo, Chankapaana’. Massu talked about how he proposed to the group before the performance that they should all do something in that section where they each say a line, but that the members told him ‘Isn’t it fine if we all just do something individually?’ Koyama laughed and said that he thought that it would be good if they did something too, but Tegoshi and Shige were the ones who said that. He added that Tegoshi was like ‘I don’t know what I’ll do during the performance’, but that he’s the type who wants to know in advance. The order they say their lines is Tegoshi, Shige, Koyama, and then Massu, so the placement of 3rd and 4th where he and Massu speak is really important. He didn’t know what Tegoshi was going to do prior to the performance, and before their performance, Nakajima Kento’s line ‘Suki nandayo, Maji de’ from the song ‘Kimi ni HITOMEBORE’ was played [in the Sexy Zone introduction clip]. Tegoshi ended up saying that line and Shige said the same thing, so even though Koyama had been planning on saying ‘pheromone taiketsu!’ he ended up matching them. Massu said that he only learned that the line ‘Suki nandayo, Maji de’ wasn’t a line from the song ‘Lady Diamond’ after the performance. He said that he figured that the title ‘Lady Diamond’, the song Sexy Zone performed, was a girl who’s like a precious stone, and so he thought it fit in his line ‘Yakusoku suruyo, Chankapaana’ perfectly. But then it ended up with him being the only one who referenced a different song. Koyama said that the part of ‘Lady Diamond’ where Sato Shori says a haiku in the middle ending with ‘by Shori’ left a big impression on him and really wanted to reference that somewhere in the performance, so at the end he added ‘by NEWS’ and that they did ‘a lot of Sexy playing around’ with the performance. But, in the beginning they really didn’t know anything. Massu complained again that he wanted to know the structure of what they were doing more in advance, like if he was going to end up doing ‘the punchline’ he wanted to know what he was doing beforehand, but when he proposed that they decide it in advance everyone else was like ‘Meh, not really. We’ll do it based on the feeling of the actual performance.’ Koyama said that he had wanted to decide what Tegoshi was going to say, so when Tegoshi sang ‘Chanakapaana~’ he was watching him to see what he was going to say.

Koyama said that at the end the staff thanked them for taking the showdown seriously in their performance, and they both said that the performance had been a bit different from what they usually do and that it was a lot of fun.

She asked if that was something he inherited from his mother, how she can also become a ‘sociable monster’, and tips on how to get closer to other people.

      Koyama commented on how he prefers to be called ‘Kei-chan’ over ‘Kei-kun’. M: Well, Kei-tan- K: I’m never called that. M: Kei-pon. K: Kei-pon… that’s kind of cute. M: Kei-pon you’re sociable- K: No, how about you, Masu-tan? M: Well, Taka-tan- K: Taka-tan!

Massu said that he’s often told that it seems that he has a wide social circle, but that it’s just that he meets other performers when they’re on these programs for work and if they interact a lot, the next time they meet them on a different program they can greet each other like “It’s been awhile!’ And how with Koyama when he meets every. staff at say a concert venue, they look like they’re really close to Massu and he wonders who they are. For Massu those type of acquaintances are most other entertainers or staff members. Massu said that they don’t really see Tegoshi when he meets other ItteQ! Members. Koyama said that Massu seems to talk to other artists more than the other members.

For tips on how to get close to other people, Massu said that if you don’t have things in common it’s impossible. Massu said that it’s unexpected for him, but he does get shy, and Koyama said that he’s actually the same. But in order to try and hide that he ends up talking a lot and because of that he seems super sociable, but that in reality there aren’t a whole lof of people that he’s really close to. Though there are a lot of people he can talk with.

Massu said that he actually gets shy once he gets to know someone a little bit, more so than people he doesn’t know at all. With strangers he can kind of put on an act and talk with them, and Koyama agreed that he’s the same. Koyama also said that he’s perfectly fine with interviewing people he doesn’t know, and Massu commented that you wouldn’t want to be interviewed by someone who was acting shy. When they see people their age having fun and not studying they get irritated. Next year, they want to be able to be glad with their decision to study hard and go to college.

They said it’s good to just have your own path, and be satisfied in what you’re doing. They agreed that happiness is different for everyone, for some people happiness is eating ramen late at night, and it might not appear so to those around them.

Oh because there are many guys who would drive you around?

    • They then talked about how you don’t really need a license if you stayed in Tokyo, as the trains are very convenient, and it’s troublesome to look for parking. Massu brought up how even if it’s not to obtain another means of transport, don’t people usually want to get their licenses? Tegoshi agreed, saying that most males would. Massu then laughed a little at Tegoshi again, saying the desire to obtain a license came at 18 for him, while Tegoshi only got his a 19. Tegoshi shared how they didn’t used to have managers coming to pick them up and all in the past, so he had to drive all the way from Yokohama and park somewhere around Shibuya. Massu said his heart skips a beat when he sees females looking nervous in the driver’s seat during their lesson. Tegoshi shared how the driving school he went to provided BMWs for their highway lessons and he was really happy about getting to drive one.

    • The following listener wrote about a story when they saw an acquaintance, walking all drenched without an umbrella in the rain. However, they did not manage to muster the courage to offer to share the umbrella, and they are feeling bad now. Would they offer to share their umbrellas? The 3 of them first talked about how the percentage of running into someone they know in a heavy downpour is probably really low, maybe about 2%. To run into anybody in a heavy downpour is first already low in probability, for that to be someone they know is even lower, plus having to realise it’s somebody they know makes the probability even lower. Sakura asked them to think of what they would do, if the situation happens, and Massu picked up on a phrase Sakura used, “tatoeba” (for instance) and started singing. Afterwhich Tegoshi also started singing another song that starts with tatoeba. And Massu just moaned “TATOEBA~~ WOOO~” Sakura got a little mad and asked them to answer the question! That the listener took the effort to send in! Tegoshi said he isn’t someone who carries an umbrella around so he has no idea. Massu is the same. Even if Tegoshi brought one out he’d forget about it. (M: EH?) But that’s the reason why Massu doesn’t carry one around, as it’s an additional stress, having to remember to take it with you. Especially when the rain stops after a while and you wonder why you have to continue carrying one. But then it’s a pretty one so you can’t just leave it around. Sakura said it’s not about carrying an umbrella around, and Massu said, well, it means both of them will more likely be the one walking in the rain than the one carrying the umbrella. Sakura got the link. She carries umbrellas around though, even parasols. Tegoshi was shocked, and asked her to look at his healthy skin colour. (M: A blonde with tanlines from a Tshirt is the most uncool! T: No way! M: Plus he did this pretty well, such that there’s a slight graduation, getting darker and darker from his shoulder to his wrist.)

    • For the quiz segment this week, they received 3 riddles. The first was, what are you hugging when you eat? They got a few wrong guesses (T: Chopsticks! M: A child if you have one! T: Grateful emotions towards the people who made you the meal! M: FRIED RICE! M: Apron! M: Bowl. T: Miso soup) Sakura gave them a hint, asking what they do first when they eat. M: Because they are the ones keeping Japan safe, and thinking of us the most- Sakura: It’s a riddle. M: Hmm? Sakura: It’s a riddle. M: So you’re saying this is not real? That you lied about having done a survey? Sakura: No no it’s not a real survey. M: Which fire station? Sakura: All. But the “fire station” is a hint. They sidetracked a little talking about how Pluto is no longer considered a planet before going back to the riddle. Sakura tried guiding them, asking them what vehicles are at the fire stations, and what you think of when you think of those vehicles (fire engines & ambulances). T: Hang on. Wait. 119! Sakura: Ho! And? That’s a big hint. M: Hmm? Sakura: 119 right? So which planet is their favourite? 119? T: Earth. Sakura: What’s the reason? T: Ichi ichi kyu (119)! M: (at the same time) Ichi- T: Right? M: It’s Ichi ichi kyu! AHHHHHH. They determined this question to go to Tegoshi as he was faster. If you read ichi ichi kyu differently, it could be ichi i chikyuu, which means “first place, earth”. Tegoshi tried arguing how the previous question should have gone to him too, as he was the one who said the key word. But nope. And the following was still a riddle. T: Oh man. I hate them!

    • Black dog, white dog, brown dog, yellow dog. Which is the one that is least noisy? Sakura: This is surprisingly difficult. Might be easier if you think about what it means to be not noisy. Tegoshi was careful not to talk too much as whatever he says always ends up as a hint. Sakura tried guiding them, asking what they say when the dog is noisy. M: You’re noisy! Sakura: What does that mean? Sakura: The answer is something to do with the visual. If you look at the words for “black dog”, “white dog”, “brown dog” and “yellow dog” you might get it. Sakura then gave them a huge hint, asking them to look at the kanji for the 4 different dogs. What do you want the dogs to do when they’re noisy? M: Sit? T: I was going to say that. M: Scold them. Sakura: Why? What do you say? M: Shut up (Damare). Sakura: Oh oh oh...which means? This is almost the answer. That’s the reason for the answer. T: The least noisy, right? Sakura: Yeap. To shut up means…? M: Ah…… Ah….. I got it. Black, black right? It’s the kanji. The kanji for damaru. T: AH! You’re right! So the trick is that when you put the kanji for black dog together, it forms the kanji for damaru (shut up).

He’ll work hard towards the goal of holding the open recording at Tokyo Dome? Or Osaka dome for the 700th episode.

    • The first listener asked if Massu prefers potato croquettes or minced meat cutlets. He prefers potato croquettes as minced meat cutlets are something somewhat foreign to him, and he has probably never felt craved for minced meat cutlets. Massu talked about how they had to compete against Sexy Zone on the programme, and SZ sang “Lady Diamond”, while NEWS sang “Chankapana”. At the part when all of them says “Utsukushii Koi wo Suru yo” all of them said something from a Sexy Zone song, so it’s like a response to their performance. So Massu danced a bit of Lady Diamond’s dance at the end, as he remembers them having an action of moving the hand around, but that probably didn’t get through. Of course, that’s the fault of Sexy Zone. He picked up a less noticeable step from their dance. If he’d picked the step for the “Lady, Lady~” (he sang this in a super high pitched voice) part, everyone might have gotten it. So it’s his fault too. Anyway, so what he did was Sexy Zone’s dance step.

    • The third listener asked what ingredients Massu likes best to be cooked together with rice. He replied that he has a number one ingredient, and that’s sea urchin. Which is on a completely different level on its own. Seafood like sea urchin and salmon roe might be on the same level, but the ordinary ones like mushrooms, chestnuts, red beans… those are the regular ones. But sea urchin is delicious. He basically likes soboro (flavoured minced meat/ fish), so things with a strong flavour that can change the taste of the rice are what he likes.

    • The fourth listener asked if Massu watches western movies with subtitles, or dubbed in Japanese. He talked about a story from a long time ago, when he was in middle or high school. How he used to go to the movies very often when he was younger, as there was a cinema at his hometown and he would go with both his friends and his family. But when he grew older, he started only going with his friends. And the first time somebody asked the question of whether to watch the movie subbed or dubbed, he was like, what? But nobody has ever paid any attention to that. Even now, he isn’t really bothered about whether he watches them subbed or dubbed. But when it’s like a film that is very Hollywood, he’d think “Wow this is so much Japanese”, if he happens to watch it dubbed. But he likes animations like Pixar best, and usually like to watch those dubbed. It doesn’t really bother him. He also shared that he would like to try voicing animations one day, like doing animal voices, for a huge elephant or something. So if anybody listening now happens to find his voice a perfect fit for their elephant, he’d love to try. The other option is to buy the DVD or Blurays, so you can watch them both ways.

    • The fifth listener asked if he prefers ladies with large or slim butts. He said there is the image of foreign stars having perky butts, then wearing spandex and stuff. Ladies with slim butts…? Meaning no butts? He said this question is really extreme. And to answer it very frankly, he likes ordinary butts. Ordinary is the best. Not big, nor non-existent.

    • The sixth listener says she has a 13 year-old daughter and 11 year-old son, who quarrel everyday. Did Massu used to quarrel with his sister? How did they stop? He said they probably did quarrel, but he can’t remember any of them. Did they even quarrel? What he remembers clearly is that there is a photo of his sister and him, where the sister is holding a box full of snacks and stuffing herself with them, while Massu is sitting beside her, holding just a stick of that snack and eating that single stick preciously with a cute smile. It’s not that he remembers this incident, only this photo, but it might be crucial to have a gentle younger brother. Yeah. So to have the younger brother give in, and understand how to be respectful of people. He said that in a while, the son will enter middle school, get into contact with girls and learn how to be gentler. It’s tough, but it also depends on what kind of quarrels they have. Maybe find out the reasons for the quarrels and let them know why it’s not okay.

    • The seventh listener congratulated them on their anniversary and said their mother’s birthday is on the same day. They are always embarrassed and can’t quite say thank you to the mother each time. What does Massu do for his mother’s birthday? He thanked the listener and wished the mother happy birthday.
