  • Tegomass no Radio (Mar 28)

    • At the opening, they talked about how the tour was starting that weekend. Tegoshi told everyone to bring their space suits, or they won’t be getting any oxygen, and everyone would all just go bam! when they enter the venue.

Sakura: No one would go then. T: No way! Empty? The seats would be empty? M: How much do space suits cost anyway. T: Yeah how much? Let’s ask NASA. Call & go, “I’d like some space suits, how much do they cost?”

He asked the other two to continue talking while he searches for the answer.

So Massu asked Sakura how’s it going recently, and they talked about the erratic weather in Tokyo recently, going hot and cold, snowing and stuff. Tegoshi found out that the space suits are real expensive and can cost hundreds of millions. (T: It’s impossible, HAHAHA. M: Now, how many audience would manage to make it there?) Tegoshi said if anyone had super rich fathers they might be able to make it. Going back to serious talk, they said they’ve been rehearsing a lot.

T: By the way, the opening song is “U R not alone”. (a second of silence) I lied~

Massu said Sakura had a face when she didn’t know if Tegoshi blurted out the song sequence, or if he’s lying. Tegoshi said all 4 of them have been saying on their respective radio programmes and magazine interviews for fans to not put the setlist on the internet and since all the fans are really good, they won’t. So why would he!? Sakura said you can never tell for Tegoshi. Massu agreed, saying Tegoshi would say on radio or stuff about which songs they plan to do as a surprise, and would still see nothing wrong in blurting them out. (T: I WON’T!) The two of them then imitated the female curling team at the Olympics, saying their pet line “Sou da ne” and pretending to be sweeping.

    • The request for this week was for “EROTICA”, and the listener wanted to know who did the whistling at the start and is looking forward to see how the choreography would turn out.

M: Who did the whistling? T: We don’t know. It’s not any of the members.

Massu said when he heard the finished product with whistling, he thought it’d have been nice if it was one of them so they could share it as one of the behind-the-scenes stories. Tegoshi agreed, and said they should just have it that way from now. Fib the story up and it could be him or Massu, depending on the situation. Sakura said they can’t do that since they’ve already said the truth. They said they really didn’t know who it was, it could have been the producer or anyone else, like how there were sounds of the director or producer’s cat for “Neko Chudoku”. Sakura asked if they could whistle, they both could and Tegoshi started whistling. Massu asked him to try whistling the start of “EROTICA” and Tegoshi did a terrible attempt so he asked Massu to try. Massu didn’t even manage the first note. They both insisted they could and continued trying a few times before Massu whistled something that sounded okay.

    • At the introduction for the next segment, Tegoshi went “ENDING DESU!” just as Massu was saying “The mail-” and said he thought they’d reached the end since they talked so much at the opening.

Sakura: We talk so much all the time. T: AHAHAHAH.

Massu said Tegoshi completely killed his “The mail segment” and Tegoshi recognised his voice was a little loud that day since they were rehearsing and all. He apologised and Sakura said he’s grown up.

    • The first mail was from someone who has problems telling their friends they’d heard the story before if their friends repeated the same story. Are the three of them the types to listen quietly too? How would they resolve this?

T: Well you see, this person before me, the one who’s hosting Tegomass no Radio with the red hair? It always happens to this person. For example, Massu would share a story when they’re on Tegomass work. And repeat the same story at NEWS work. So Koyama-Kato are hearing it for the first time, but he just keeps looking at me when he talks. I already know! But since the other two are hearing it for the first time it’s okay. It happens pretty often. M: Well though I’m looking at Tegoshi, I might be speaking to someone else. T: Ah really. Well at least I think I’m usually smiling and looking like I’m listening.

Tegoshi said he usually wouldn’t say that he’s heard the story while the person is telling it, but might when it’s over, and just say that it’s his second time hearing it. He asked Sakura what she’d do.

Sakura: For me, it’s also this person working on Tegomass no Radio, right before me, with the blond hair. Yes yes yes… this person repeats the same story over and over again pretty often. T: Eh? Me? Nowaynowaynoway.... M: He says that same phrases too. T: No way! For example? Sakura: It’d be endless! M: Like, “I hate such people”. T: Not just when similar mails come from listeners? Sakura: No. M: Like, “I got a dog!”

Massu said it must have something to do with being an only-child. Sakura said it might be, since she’s like that too. (T: No way! So Shige’s the same too? M: But he doesn’t repeat stories much. T: He doesn’t. But he doesn’t speak non-stop very often either.) They said because they have a lot of interviews to do and all, they tend to have to repeat the same stories as if they’re sharing it for the first time, be it with friends or for work. They then decided to tell each other if they started repeating stories, though no one would really be sure and maybe the listeners would send in lots of mails saying “WE’VE HEARD IT!”

They said it’s not very nice to cut someone halfway through their story, so maybe just listen to it, and at the end, just say jokingly that “I’ve heard it though” so the atmosphere doesn’t get all awkward. It might also be nice to just let it go the second time, and tell them only at the third time or something.

    • The next mail was from someone who has problems swallowing pills, and would always just end up swallowing the water, leaving the pill still inside their mouth. It doesn’t work either if they popped the pill and water into their mouths and waited a while for the pill to dissolve. What can they do? Tegoshi said it depends on the day, there’re days when it’s hard, just like how some days you gag while brushing your tongue. It’s weird.

M: I gag everyday. T: That’s true. There’s the image of you going “Urghhhh” in the holding room when brushing your teeth each time. M: Hurhurhurhur. Stop it. T: When we have recordings for music programmes, everyone would brush their teeth after eating the bentos, and “Urghhhh!” Sakura: Gross Masuda-san… M: That was an exclusive story. Sakura: I heard this for the first time! This was good. M: This was something you heard for the first time. In contrary, you didn’t actually need to hear this. (studio laughs) There wasn’t a need to share this. Aren’t we getting a little too obsessed with the “first time”?

They talked a little about why the gagging happens, and Tegoshi going back to the pills and describing different states of when he fails to swallow the pills - just at the entrance of the esophagus, nowhere near etc. Massu shared how once he spurted out all over the glass of the sink at home when he gagged while toothbrushing once. (T: No way! Serious? No!)

They’re not sure if there’re any tips for swallowing pills, but Tegoshi would break them down on the days he feel he can’t swallow them well. Massu said he’s pretty okay with that, even with food like rice.

T: Ah, you’re like a snake, just gobbling everything in at one go. M: I’ve never chewed for things like curry. T: Curry’s a beverage?

Sakura shared how she tries to jerk her head up when she has problems swallowing and they suggested her to try that and let them know how it goes. They face the same problem too, so it’s okay.

    • The following mail is from someone who works at a karaoke shop and noticed that the number of males singing NEWS’ songs have increased. Before, it used to be mainly hyper songs like “weeeek” and “Chankapana”, but recently songs like “Sakura Girl” and “Full Swing” have become more commonly sung too. Since the key for their songs are relatively high, what are the songs that are easier to sing for males? Please name songs they’d like females to sing too. They said how they’re happy to hear males are singing their songs. Massu said there’re times when he looks at the history for the karaoke at bars and someone sang NEWS a little while back, while the “Aoi Bench” requested is usually the Sasuke version. They talked a little about how the key for their songs are relatively high for males. Tegoshi said in the past, songs that are high in key are usually set at lower keys by default at karaokes, so they are easier to sing. However, it has become the norm for songs to be set at their original keys regardless of how high they are. He doesn’t understand why it used to be that way. Massu added there are many times when he starts singing at the key he’s familiar with, only to realise he’s off and that the key was set lower by default, like B’z songs. They said the songs from Chankapana onwards are all of higher keys, as the producer feels it’s easier to sing with emotions. So they feel the songs before Chankapana might be easier to sing for males. They talked about how EPCOTIA is really high too, and they’re tired after rehearsals. Since it’s hard for voices to come back once they’re gone, they need to be real careful this time, since they are performing each week and they’d like to give their best performance. They concluded males should sing songs before Chankapana, or just adjust the key to what they’re comfortable with.

    • At the ending, Tegoshi apologised for talking too much and not being able to do “Tegomass no Battle” as scheduled. He mentioned how he saw the EPCOTIA truck while he was at Harajuku/ Shibuya and Massu said they should talk about it since it was funny. When they met each other at NHK for work, Tegoshi said he saw the EPCOTIA truck and took a photo of the driver. Massu said he also saw the truck before getting to NHK and said “Uncle~~~!” and waved at him. When he saw the photo Tegoshi took, he realised it was the same person, on the same day. They started comparing timings, with Tegoshi saying he saw the uncle at Harajuku and Massu saying he saw him while he was resting as the truck was stopped by the roadside. Since Tegoshi reached NHK earlier, he should have seen the uncle earlier. They then promoted the concert and “NEWS ni Koishite”.

  • Masuda Takahisa no Master Hits (Mar 30)

    • At the opening, he said since the tour was finally starting the following day, he’s had special guests over. And it’s very tough to get everyone’s schedules to meet, but they still came anyway. NEWS fans would be very happy as it’s really hard to get all of them to come together. Getting the special guests to introduce themselves…

“Nice to meet you. This is MADE’s Tomiko Kento.”

      “Akiyama Taiga.”

      “Fukushi Nobuki.”

“(referring to a long running CM) It’s fine even if 100 people rode on it! Inaba Hikaru.”

      M: Ah, so it’s MADE.

They said he made it very hard for them to introduce themselves as everyone probably thought it’d be NEWS. He said he did it on purpose and asked Inaba to back down 5 metres as he’s too loud. They said they appeared once before, for the 10th anniversary concert so it’s been 5 years. Massu said since each of them said they wanted to come, he invited them via the manager, but got told they’re busy with stage plays and all.

MADE: Serious? No, we’ll come anytime!

M: I think I got rejected 15 times or something.

      MADE: No way!

Since the tour was beginning the following day, he asked them to pick a song from “EPCOTIA” to play. They discussed a little saying that it’s an important choice since it would affect how excited everyone felt about the tour starting.

MADE: Ah, wouldn’t it be the title track?

M: I was thinking of playing something from the second track onwards. Read the atmosphere.

Inaba: Ah, “THUNDER” then? It’s my favourite song! Who sang it?

      M: Who?

      Inaba: Hmm? Masuda Takahisa’s solo?

M: You sure you’re not making fun of me now?

MADE: Ah there’s a possibility he wouldn’t be around from tomorrow onwards.

      Inaba: Please let me perform!

They continued the choosing/ rejecting but Massu rejected all of them with the reason how the songs haven’t been introduced on Master Hits before and he wouldn’t want them to be making the first introductions. They finally decided on “JUMP AROUND” since it’s been played before. He got them to introduce the song, but Inaba kept slipping up, saying to please listen to MADE’s song etc.

    • ♪ JUMP AROUND ♪

    • He asked them to share anything they are paying particular attention to, and they talked about how everyone’s doing their best to present the world of “EPCOTIA”. Taiga is also in charged of the juniors on the whole, and said everyone’s really putting in their best and said how they’re all extremely excited. They said while they’re about 150% hyped up now, they’ll try to reduce it to 90% for the actual day, so there’s 10% left to stay calm and prevent themselves from getting injured or anything. They’re also excited to see how the audience would react.

Massu asked if Kento was going to perform his acrobatic stunt, the cork screw or something like that. He said there were no plans this time, but the other members said he’d probably find some chance to do it somewhere because of the talk about it today. (M: Well, because he’s the Twisting Prince of MADE!) Massu shared he performed it for “LIS’N” before.

Fukushi said it’s different from “NEVERLAND” and since he likes the space very much, he’s very happy to be part of this.

M: Ah you like the space?

      Fukushi: I do.

      M: For example?

Fukushi: For example? Is it okay if I got very passionate about this?

      The rest: This is scary…

He said though it’s got nothing to do with the concert, he’s sure everyone shares the same question about space - what happens at the edge of space? How’s this! Everyone tried to cover up the awkwardness and they decided to play the next song.

    • Massu said since MADE has appeared on the programme before and also backdances for them, the fans know them and quite a lot of mails related to them come in. MADE asked if it’s true, because Massu was only holding on to 4 mails then.

M: And two of these aren’t related.

But the mails do come in, and he read the mail from a listener who became a fan of MADE from watching them at NEWS’ concert since they’re overflowing with cuteness and coolness, and asked Massu to please ask them to the radio. They thanked her and said they managed to come! They also said how Massu’s the one overflowing with cuteness and coolness at concerts.

M: That’s right, that’s why I end up slipping and falling all the time.

      MADE: That’s cute too!

    • The next mail was from someone who watched the episode of SCP Massu produced and said all the members, MADE, and the new song were super cool. They talked there were solo parts for each of them, and how there was a mistake for Kento’s starting dance, as the music didn’t playback right. They also shared how the transition from Kento to Taiga was also really tough, and they get goosebumps from watching it themselves. They thanked Massu for giving them opportunities for each of them. Massu shared how there should have been equal takes for each of them camera-wise, but somehow it got messed up and Fukushi didn’t get shown when he was dancing, so people might have been wondering if he was around at all.

    • Massu then announced suddenly he’s going to read the mails as usual. It was from someone who wanted to know the kind of bag Massu uses when he travels. He said he’s known for bringing few items with him, and MADE agreed, saying they’ve never seen him carrying a suitcase and it’s always a boston bag. He said aside from concerts, when he’d need to bring changes of clothes, he tries to bring as little as he can. He asked if they had anything they HAD to bring with them when they travelled, and they threw the question back at them. He said the only item is the scrubbing towel. While there would be those prepared for them at the venues, those are really hard. They agreed and there are times when it hurts, and it might be because they are new.

Inaba brings eye masks with him, using them when he sleeps, and props them up to use as a hairband when he’s up. He shared how there was once though, he put both the eye mask and face mask on when he slept, to find they’d switched positions when he woke up and wondered what happened.

He shared how he’s tried to buy Massu the same eye mask he uses since it’s really good but Massu rejects him each time. Massu said it’s the one with the weird character on it that Inaba uses, and no one can imagine Massu using it, can they. He wouldn’t want to be seen using it at the rehearsals. Not even at home. He’d hate himself for that. (MADE: That bad!?)

Inaba said he got rejected for the hugging pillow too, so there’s nothing left that he can gift Massu. (The rest: There must be something else! That can’t be all.)

Massu said while MADE brought snacks for the bayfm staff the last time they appeared, they brought nothing over this time. They apologised, saying they came from rehearsals and didn’t have time to prepare anything.

MADE: Could we have 30 minutes?

M: It’s already ending. I was just kidding anyway.

    • At the ending, MADE promoted “Coin locker babies”, a stage play that Taiga and Fukushi are going appearing from July to August together with A.B.C-Z.

M: And Inaba? You’re not appearing?

Inaba: Ah, I’m not. There was an audition…

M: Ah it’s okay! You don’t have to continue.

      Inaba: (sobbing sound)

      M: Let’s go for a meal.

      Inaba: Yes, please.

Fukushi, Taiga: Eh, so we can’t go?

      M: Do your work properly!

Fukushi: We can go after work!

Massu said since 12 juniors are backdancing for them for the tour, he’s going to invite the other 8 onto the show the following week. MADE said they wanted to appear too, but Massu said no since Inaba’s too noisy and they said maybe he’d be the only one hated by fans. (Inaba: I want to be loved by everyone!) Massu then said they could come if they had time the following week too.
