  • Tegomass no Radio (May 2)

    • At the opening, they talked about how it’s May and everyone should have more or less gotten used to their new lives. Sakura shared how the manager following her to work is also a fresh graduate, and look very rigid at the set all time. They said how this is the toughest period, but hope all the fresh graduates do their best.

    • Moving on to the request, the listener liked the lyrics from “IT’S YOU”, saying they can really relate to the lyrics “Utsukushiku owaru...I am calling”, how the heart is unable to suppress their emotions rationally. The listener said they cannot resist it when males show their weak side. The lyrics “samayotta ore wo egao de iyashite yo” describe their ideal relationship, and they asked if there any song like this for Tegomass.

Sakura: Tegoshi-san...are you capable of loving someone?

      T: I can! I can, and I have!

      M, Sakura: Ah, really…

T: On the contrary, a man who’s 30 and haven’t loved before would be really scary.

M: We wouldn’t know. And you might just be the scary person.

T: NO NO NO NO. I love and I’m really dedicated. Once we get together, I love whole-heartedly.

      M, Sakura: Whoooooooo~

T: What’s this, oei. I’m really dedicated once we get together.

      M: Whoooo~

T: AH it’s begun. Emma! Papa is getting bullied…

Getting back to the mail, Tegoshi picked Hirai Ken’s “Hitomi wo Tojite”, and “EMMA”. Marriage should be a stable relationship, but he’d like some excitement while dating, so EMMA with a tinge of danger is nice. Massu first started talking about B’z on the whole, and Tegoshi shot him down saying it’s not about which artiste he likes, as if “Ultrasoul” is a love song. Massu then chose “FOREVER MINE”, as it’s a rather strong song, asking their partner to follow them forever. They asked Sakura for a female perspective, asking if she listens to Nishino Kana as she has many love songs from females’ POV and asked for Sakura’s “Torisetsu” (a song by Nishino Kana, meaning user’s manual).

Sakura: I don’t have one, I’m not that troublesome a person.

      M: Ah that’s rude!

Sakura: No I don’t mean to be rude, it’s just that I’m not very feminine, and more like a man.

She then picked CHiCO with HoneyWorks, popular among youngsters now, and which neither of them have heard before. Sakura explained they have songs that describe relationships between A, B, C for example and they have different songs from the perspectives of each of them. It’s really interesting and Massu said he’d want to try making a song like that.

    • The second mail this week was from someone who started going to the gym for 2 reasons - because they wanted to stay healthy, and because they wanted to look better when they go to see NEWS. They realised that females tend to use the treadmill and train their lower bodies more, while males tend to work on their upper bodies more. What kind of training do the 3 of them do more? Tegoshi also runs and works his lower body out more. He shared how there are more muscles in the lower body, so it makes sense to spend more time working on the lower body than the upper body. Though most males work only on the upper body as they only want to look better, but that only makes the upper body heavier. Massu added that the biggest muscle in the body is the one that stretches from the thighs to the butt, so females can lose more weight if they train that muscle. He also doesn’t like it if only the upper body gets bulkier and they’d just end up looking like Popeye. Massu joked that Tegoshi’s aiming to become like the haniwa figures but he said he isn’t. Sakura said she started the kaatsu training about half a year ago, under a personal trainer. They all agreed that it’s better to have a personal trainer as then they cannot get lazy and not go.

They also discussed how exercising is good as it helps prevent illness and ageing. Tegoshi gave a bad metaphor of how exercising is like the better route that nobody chooses, to which Massu corrected and said exercising is like the tough route with a million-dollar goal, but everyone chooses the easy way out to receive just 10 thousand dollars. Tegoshi said he doesn’t understand his friends who talk about how their tummies are showing but don’t exercise. It’s like such a straightforward answer but they just don’t do it. He’s happy being stoic about exercise the way he is now.

    • The third mail is from someone who makes dinner when their mother needs to work. They don’t mind cooking, but they don’t have a huge variation of things to cook. They asked for the 3 of them to list the top 3 items they wanted to eat at the moment. Massu listed gyoza (T, Sakura: Even though he was just eating it and the entire place stinks of leek as usual. M: Nobody would have known if you guys didn’t say anything!), cabbage roll, and grilled fish.

Tegoshi listed misonikomi at first, before realising he messed up his words as he really meant mackerel simmered in miso sauce (saba no misoni), spicy mapo tofu rice bowl… and sushi. As he likes vinegar rice. He also talked about his love for natto maki (fermented soybeans sushi roll) and how he ALWAYS buys that when he goes to the convenience store, and when he drives-

M: That’s enough of talk on natto maki.

      T: AHhhhhhhhh.

Sakura: You don’t have to expand that much on natto maki.

Sakura then listed homemade super spicy mustard greens with cumin added in it. The two of them pretended to not know what cumin she was referring to, and joked about ward residents (kumin in japanese). Tegoshi said he wants to try some and asked Sakura to bring some next time. (M: I’ll pass~)

She then followed by listing stir-fried pea sprouts and tomato cream pasta with chicken inside.

Sakura commented that Massu’s list had the cutest dishes, and Massu said that’s because there’s this dude who listed sushi even though they were talking about dishes that can be cooked at home. Tegoshi said it isn’t impossible, like for example if they bought some fish on the way home or something. Massu said they tried making sushi on SCP and he should know how hard it is to make it. (T: That’s true.) Tegoshi then said his mother does buy some fish on the way home and make chirashi sushi at home, which is super yummy.

    • For “Tegomass no Debate this week, the first question was if A: To sleep on someone’s lap and be spoilt; B: To spoil someone and let them sleep on their laps. Before choosing, Massu said Tegoshi probably has problems understanding the difference in options (as it’s ambiguous in Japanese) and they spent some time clarifying that up.

They both chose A, and they were both surprised. Tegoshi said he definitely wanted to be the one sleeping on the lap, and Massu said that’s probably the only chance men get to be spoilt.

    • The second question: if they could only sing one type of song for the rest of their lives? A: Up-tempo songs; B: Slow-tempo songs.

Tegoshi started questioning why he had to be limited to singing just one type of song and asked for the reason etc. etc. etc. Massu joined in after that, and they even started talking about which NEWS songs they won’t be able to sing anymore.

Sakura: No no. (in English). FOR EXAMPLE. FOR EXAMPLE.

T: Our setlist would be screwed up!

Sakura: Moving on to the next question… (laughter in studio) from Apple Pie-san from Saitama.

      M: From Apple Pie-san?

      T: That’s amazing, we’ve received something from a bread?

Sakura: It’s not a bread. It’s from a living thing.

      M: Bread? That’s not even a bread!

    • So the question is for the type of tofu they prefer. A: Silky tofu. B: Firm tofu. They also didn’t manage to debate as Tegoshi had no idea what the difference was, and Massu likes both. Massu also said he can’t tell the difference between mashed bean paste and smooth bean paste. Tegoshi can’t either.

Sakura: EH? They’re completely different! The texture and taste…

T: I can’t tell. Like, for Tegomass, Tegoshi and Masuda are the same.

      M, Sakura: It’s not!

Sakura: You’re completely different! From the cell!

    • The fourth question asked if A: They can’t eat their favourite food for the rest of their lives; B: They could only eat their most hated food everyday for every meal for the rest of their lives.

They both chose A. Tegoshi referred back to the earlier meal, that even if he couldn’t eat miso mackerel, there’re still plenty of dishes to choose from. But if he had to eat celery every day, that’d be completely dumb.

Sakura: This is the debate segment, and not the quibble segment.

T: Our opinions don’t differ today.

Sakura: Why do you have to be on such good terms today, when you always differ all the time.

      M: NE~

T: Ah~ That’s right, we end up choosing the same no matter what.

    • At the ending, they promoted EPCOTIA, the tour and NEWS ni Koishite.

  • Masuda Takahisa no Master Hits (May 4)

    • At the opening, he talked about how it’s Golden Week in Japan and he doesn’t have any memories of doing anything special but since they’re having the Osaka concerts during Golden Week this year, it’ll become his memory for Golden Week.

    • ♪ EPCOTIA ♪

    • The first mail was from someone who definitely orders the shishamo fish when they go drinking with their friends. While they eat the entire fish, they were told the head shouldn’t be eaten. Is there anything Massu definitely orders each time, and does Massu eat the head of the shishamo fish? Massu shared how the shishamo fish served at some izakaya aren’t really the shishamo fish, but some other breed and he remembers being shocked when he first heard and didn’t understand why they are labelled shishamo then. He wondered if the listener likes the real shishamo fish, or the breed that’s served as the shishamo fish. He eats the entire fish. Same for deep fried prawns. As for what he always orders, he shared how someone he often drinks with always orders umesuisho (sour plums with shark cartilage) and he first ate it without really knowing what it was, but it started to grow on him. As it isn’t really that widely available, he orders it when he sees it. The other thing he always orders is probably beer.

    • The second mail is from a listener who has two younger brothers. As far as she can remember, she has always felt like she had to behave properly all the time and can’t really relax nor let herself be spoilt by others. When does Massu let his hair down, and is he the type who wants to be spoilt, or the type who wants to spoil people? He said as he’s the younger sibling, he’s probably the type who wants to be spoilt, if he really had to choose. Like having things shared, like how his sister would share snacks with him when she had more. Since he’s been used being the one being taken out rather than the one taking the lead, it felt weird initially when some juniors first asked him to take them out for meals, and it was like, “Ah, okay. Me? You sure?”

So for relationships with other people, he probably won’t be able to take it if people depended on him entirely. It’d be a 6:4 ratio, with 60% of people depending on him, and the remaining 40% of him leaning on the other party. It’s fine if the ratio is different, but not 100% either way, be it him depending on someone or the other way round. He hopes the listener manages to find someone she’s comfortable letting her hair down.

As to when he can relax...when he drinks coffee alone? His job requires him to work with people all the time, so he consciously creates time for himself. It’s not negative or anything, but that he feels it’s important to create downtime or find something that allows yourself to be yourself so you can unwind and not be tensed up all the time.

    • The third mail is from a listener who is having trouble figuring out how to store their bags as they have many different types of bags. How does Massu store his? He talked about how he gave what some people might find useless advice the previous time someone asked how he stores his jeans (just folding and stacking them) so he wants to make his answer this time useful. For small sling bags, he hangs them on S hooks, and for bags like totes and boston bags, he stuffs them into the top shelf. (M: Doesn’t sound very useful either…) He said it’s probably easiest to line them up one by one if there’s space, but that’s tough. Wouldn’t it be great if there were bags to store bags? He concluded it’s a tough question and apologised at the end.

    • The fourth listener said they can’t help but check out the clothes of people they pass by. Does Massu check out the clothes of people around him or people he walks past? He does. Totally. Especially when he was still a student. He’d check out the clothes of people on the train. There are times when he finds the styling cool, or how only the shoes don’t match, but usually it’s just the kind of things he likes that he ends up looking at. It’d be rude to stare so he tries to look without staring.

    • The fifth listener asked if there’s anything Massu does the night before a big day, and if he can sleep well. He’s not sure and said if there is a fixed routine to what’s going to happen, he’d hate it if the routine doesn’t go the way it’s supposed to. So he tries not to fix a routine down instead. For concerts, there are things like cologne and accessories. But it’s all up to the mood each time, whether to put on a lot or none. So he dumps all of them into a pouch and brings all of them along each time. That’s probably all the preparation he does each time. And maybe cleaning? Since he’d be leaving the house for the weekend and he wouldn’t like to return to a dirty house. It wouldn’t feel good to have a schedule or routine messed up, so it might actually be better to carry on life as usual, and be just more on the ball.

    • For Masterpiece this week, he played “TWINKLE STAR”. He talked about how the song is by her0ism with a beauuuuutiful melody. It’s a tune that naturally becomes part of the body. Of all the songs from the album this time, this is probably the only song that feels like it’s been part of his body the entire time, just from listening it once. They’ll probably perform the song at the concert, so to those coming, please look forward to the performance!

    • At the ending, he promoted the tour.

Hearing FOREVER MINE is make me crying as the song is represent how I felt in all this scandal, seems it's only Massu the one who loved and protected NEWS.
Well Tego, you can't make sushi (SCP preferences) and I believe Massu can cook briliantly (SCP preferences).
Massu-family stories are rare and jewels to me.
Sakurai-san must be special to Massu then, as He stalking him despite always being asked to go out. :))))
