- Shige commented on how the Anniversary concerts had finished, and that he was going to believe that they went well (as this show was recorded before they happened).
- The first message was from a listener who said that Shige was really cool in Zero, and that they are looking forward to how the other members will appear. They said that they were happy to hear friends and Junior high aged boys be excited about the drama.
Shige said that he was happy to hear it, and said that he thought that junior high and high school boys would enjoy the drama a lot, so he’d be happy if they watched it. He mentioned how Massu has appeared as Kazuya, and the others will be appearing shortly. - ♪ Ikiro ♪
- For music club this week he played ‘Sad’ by XXXTentacion, talking about his murder and saying he was surprised to see the news. He talked about his music style and rise to fame. He also mentioned the death of rapper Lil Peep last year from overdose, and how he was surprised hearing that news too. He mentioned how Lil Peep was mentioned in The Grammy’s In Memoriam tribute.
- The next letter was from a listener who said that they’re really enjoying Zero, they said that they watched Shige’s appearance on ‘Shirube he no Michi’, the Jr show where they auditioned for the role of Shirube, and said that he did so well as a mentor that they wondered if he had a teaching license. They wanted to know if he ever considered getting one when he was in college, and that it would be idyllic to have a teacher like Shige.
Shige said commented on how it might be because he writes novels, but he has had a lot of teacher roles. He said that he’s thankful. - The next letter was from a listener who also said that they’re enjoying the drama. They said that hearing Sato Ryuga’s, the Jr who plays Shirube, name reminded them of Shige talking about a story he told on this radio show of how he had been writing in his hotel room while on tour and was surprised to hear Byakuya come on the TV. They asked if he had talked to Sato about it.
Shige said that he remembered that story now, of how Tokyo B Shonen performed Byakuya. Shige said that when he first heard the song come on he was wondering why it was playing when he wasn’t there, then realized that it was Tokyo B Shonen performing it. He said that he felt that they were much smaller then, and Ryuga has grown a lot.
He talked about Shirube he no Michi and said that he didn’t pick the winning junior from the auditions, the NTV staff did so he didn’t know until the day of. He talked about how it was nostalgic seeing the old dramas that they remade as part of the audition.
He said that he was sure filming would be tough for Ryuga, but that he must be happy to have been chosen. He talked about how he was asked to give an encouraging message to the juniors who didn’t make it, and he said he would be happy to if they were really ok with him doing it. He said that he sounded a bit arrogant, but that was what he could say. Telling them about how you’ll fail many more auditions that you’ll pass and all you can do it keep working hard believing that someone will notice.
He said that he was impressed with their hard work, and how young and innocent they are. Though they’re not exactly good, he thinks they’re learning a lot and that this acting will really mature them quickly. He said that he didn’t know what kind of person Ryuga is at all, and when he would ask people what he’s like people would say that he spacey. He said that while that’s true, he’s still pretty young, freshman in high school, which is about how old he was when he debuted and he was the same way. He said that he’s cute.
He talked about how when you start acting at first you get scolded a lot, and he didn’t know what the problem was that made them have to do so many retakes, but he had to just keep going. But now, he thinks that that was really meaningful. He said that he’s sure Ryuga is really nervous to act with him.
He talked about how he didn’t know that Ryuga had cried on set until he saw that on air, but how there are somethings you have to realize on your own, so he’s trying not to be overly kind and overbearing.
He said that he completely open when Ryuga approaches him, and that he’s enjoying seeing him improve. He said that more than anything, the way he’s trying his best is charming. Shige said that he’s also learning a lot. He really likes Ryuga now that he’s getting to know him.
He said that he’s acted with sempai a lot before, and is thinking about how he’ll probably be getting more opportunities to act with kohai, how it’s refreshing to get to act with more younger kohai who he hasn’t danced together with before.
He also mentioned how he acted with members of HiHiJet in his 24 Hour TV drama, ‘Moumoku Yoshinori Sensei’, and how they’ve grown.
He also talked about the letter he got from Takeda Tetsuya, who played Kinpachi Sensei, on the show Gyoretsu, and how it’s a lovely letter that’s still stuck with him. He’s come to the point where he’s really able to put importance on the advice he gets from those above him. But he feels that maybe his words [to the juniors on Shirube he no Michi] might not have made much of an impact, they might be thinking things like ‘I’m being told this by you?’ or ‘no I’m different’ since they are high schoolers. It’s fine if they agree with what he said, but it’s also fine if they don’t, it’s fine if they want to courageous and take their own path rather than the path he took.
He said that he also has a responsibility, and it was hard for him to say those words too. He mentioned how he recently had to speak with kids on NEWS na Futari, and since they’re not his kids he can’t say anything irresponsible. How difficult but important it is to be able to share your opinion while respecting the child. He said it must be difficult to be a teacher, and encouraged all the teachers as the second semester starts. - The next letter was from a listener who said that they watched Zero, and they were excited by the drama and unable to sleep right away afterwards. They wanted to know if the chocolate gyoza from the drama really had chocolate in it.
Shige said it really was, they went out of their way to make it. He said it was really good, though regular gyoza are better. He said that the the chocolate in gyoza is really hot, because it doesn’t cool down so he encourage everyone who wanted to try it to be careful. He said that there would be more tent scenes with the four of them in the future too. - ♪ 36° ♪

- This week was just Koyama with no guest because all the other members were too busy with drama filming or plays, he said that next week would be Tegoshi, but it was announced that actually all four members will be on next week.
- The first message was from a listener who said that they watched FNS Uta no Natsu Matsuri, and that they were really happy seeing NEWS’ 15th Anniversary medley. They talked about how during weeeek they all gathered in the middle, and seeing Shige sing happily made them so happy that they cried. They said that they were also moved my NEWS’ singing ability and asked for any behind the scene stories.
Koyama thanked them and said he how was happy to hear that, and said that NEWS really are close and how that must have come across on screen. He said that he was happy to be included when they said ‘NEWS’ singing ability’, he’s been practicing a lot, though it may be hard to improve right away he wants to keep practicing a lot so he can sing songs that leave an impression.
Koyama talked about how first Massu sang ‘Chim Chimney’ and that got stuck in Koyama’s head, and after Massu came back to the dressing room the two of them kept singing ‘chim chimney’ on loop. Even once he went home and was taking a bath he couldn’t get it out of his head. He said Massu was really cool, and mentioned how Tegoshi’s done a Disney medley before too. He said that when he thinks the members are really cool when he sees them singing on their own in a different ‘field’ than usual. - ♪ Ikiro ♪
- The next letter was from a listener who said that they love Koyama’s sweet voice. They said that they heard that Milk turned 1 year old in July and congratulated him. They asked what he’s been playing with Milk lately, and asked if he shows pictures of her to the members like Tegoshi does with Emma.
Koyama said that Milk’s birthday is on June 21st, and he got her on August 19th. Since it’s been hot recently he got her trimmed, and when she came back she was really round and cute. He also said that she weighs 3.3 kg.
Koyama commented on how Gai-san also owns a cat. Koyama said that rather than the other members he shows pictures of her to Gai-san, and Gai-san shows him pictures of his cat. He said that only people who like cats can understand, it’s different than with dogs. Dogs are good at expressing ‘cuteness’, of course including Tegoshi’s Emma, but with cat’s it’s hard to get a good picture.
He said that he recently bought a certain cat toy, and hummed the commercial jingle. It comes with an app, and you can film your own cat like the cm, and he’s really satisfied with it, you can post it online but he doesn’t. - The next letter was from a listener who said that they had a problem they wanted help with. (K: If you’re ok with me answering) They said that they graduated from college in March and have begun working for about 3 months. They thought that they would like the company, but now they’re not sure if this is the kind of work they want to be doing, or if they like the industry. They’ve been thinking since they were a college student that they’d like to leave their company and try something on their own. It’s possible that because they’ve been thinking that, that they haven’t properly given their all to this work. Or is it naive to think that way. They also feel bad for the people they work with, they asked for any methods to make a fresh start.
Koyama said that there must be a lot changes in their life right now since they just started working, and that changes are scary. He said that he really understood the fear of change. He said that he’s been reading a lot of books recently and the phrase that’s stuck with him the most is “Maintaining status quo is the same as retreating”. You should enjoy change, change is progress. He thinks that because so much has changed for her, that it means that she’s evolving. He thinks she should try enjoying that progress rather than fear it, it’s hard to do, but he tries to keep in mind that he’s evolving, moving forward.
If she realizing that the company really isn’t for her, then that’s another step forward.
He said that he’s trying to do that himself, but every day is scary. When he wakes up in the morning and when he goes to sleep at night he feels anxious, there’s lots to worry about but they have to keep moving forward together. - ♪ Koi Matsuri ♪
- Koyama commented on how fast time passes even when he does this on his own. The last letter was from a listener who asked if NEWS are the type to only put the bare minimum in their pencil case or if they fill it to the brim.
Koyama said that he uses his pencil case a lot, when he reads he likes to underline things. He has 2 yellow highlighters, a red pen, ballpoint pen, mechanical pencil, eraser, white out.
He said that recently during SCP rehearsal, Tegoshi was memorizing his lines for Zero. Then Massu was next to him and commented that it’d be easier to memorize if he underlined things. Koyama interjected that Massu is the type to underline his script a lot, so though he had his pencil case with him he wasn’t sure if there was any ink left in his pen.
So Koyama lent Tegoshi his yellow highlighter, and he’d used about half of it, and Tegoshi used it all up. Since it hasn’t aired yet he can’t say too much, but Tegoshi has a lot of lines. He said that Tegoshi is quite diligent, highlighting every line. Shige laughed at how diligent he was being when he was saw him doing that.
Koyama said that he was really looking forward to Tegoshi’s scenes, and said that Tegoshi sent pictures of Shige dozing off on set to their group chat. Even though Shige will be there, Koyama said he’s nervous, but soon it’ll be his turn. - At the end he did PR for the drama and Ikiro.

- At the opening, they talked about how Massu’s stage play has ended, and the concert has ended. Though nothing has ended at the point of recording. Tegoshi asked how Massu’s doing for his play, considering how he still has rehearsals for the concerts and recordings for other programmes too.
M: To be very honest, I was thinking of recording this on “energy conservation mode” today.
At that point of recording, only Koyama has gone to watch the play (TL notes: which means this must have been recorded before Jul 27). They talked about how Tegoshi was supposed to go watch 12 times, so he needed to go already, or he won’t make it in time.
T: So I’m not going to appear in “Zero”! Because I won’t have time to go for the shoots.
M: So it’s a matter of which is more important, watch 12 times, or…
T: I’ll go apologise to Shige!
They talked about how Sakura and Imai-san have been to watch Massu’s play, and Sakura commented how the costume changes must have been tough. Massu said they went to look for him after the play was over, and her first comment was, “Ahh it was really amazing, I mean, that was A LOT of costume changes!” and Massu was like, huh, don’t you have anything else to say. Sakura tried to defend herself, saying everything was so amazing, it was difficult to have to comment on each of them. So she started from what seemed toughest - costume changes.
Massu then brought back Sakura’s comment when she went to see NEVERLAND last year - how she felt the way Massu walked was cool. They said she’s got unique comments, and she said Tegoshi would understand what she meant after he’s seen it. For sure. Sakura’s next comment was, “perspiration!” To which Massu replied it’s fine to ignore that, perspiration can’t be helped since it was warm, and to please focus on the acting. Tegoshi said he was looking forward to it.
They then promoted “Ikiro”, which would be released on Sep 12. Massu then came up with a joke if the single was released on Sep 19 instead, and Tegoshi said he doesn’t get it. They said the single would be released 3 days before their actual anniversary, and hopes everyone would pay attention to the 4nin versions of “Kibou Yell” and “Endless Summer” too. They also talked about the 15th anniversary box, and the tshirt they designed. It would be the same ones as the ones they wore at the concert, so the fans would have matching ones as the members. - The request was from someone who stays in the part of Western Japan, affected by the recent floods and rains disaster. Luckily, they are not in the area that’s worst hit. When they saw NEWS singing the song on music programmes, they couldn’t stop crying and realised it was important to keep living positively, even if they had lost everything, as they managed to keep their lives. Tegoshi shared how it was already raining heavily when he was returning from Hiroshima with Shige after “Inochi no Uta”. The flight only barely managed to take off. His grandmother’s and the relatives nearby were also in the area just safe from the disaster. They talked about how it must be tough, so they hope to do whatever they can.

- The second mail was from someone who recently have problems washing their face every morning without getting water into their nose. Does the 3 of them have anything they used to be able to do, but can’t do anymore? And if they wash their face with soap every morning. Massu said he’s used to not breathing through his nose when his face comes into contact with water, since he swims often and it’d be dangerous to breathe through his nose while swimming.
M: So I don’t have problems washing my face due to the experience I have accumulated so far.
T: This listener is in their teens so they must have had been washing their face for at least more than 10 years.
M: No no no… when compared to us, they’re still very amateur.
With regard to whether they use soap on their faces in the morning, Massu says he does, since he bathes each morning. Tegoshi doesn’t. He doesn’t bathe in the morning, so he just pins his hair up and washes his face with water. While brushing his teeth.
M: WHILE brushing your teeth?
T: Aww don’t pick on details like that. Once I said that I knew you were definitely going to jump on that and you fell exactly into the trap.
Sakura: Yeah I could feel it too.
T: While thinking, “Don’t do it!”
M: (high pitched voice) EH! How is it like then??
T: No it’s not as if I brush my teeth with my left hand and wash my face with my right. No. Just that I do them all together.
Sakura: Hahahha such a troublesome guy.
Sakura said for her, it depends on the condition of her skin, if she feels it’s oily, she’d use foam, if it feels dry, she’d use just water. Her skin is usually dry. Tegoshi said his too, and they talked about how in winter, their skin flakes.

M: BACKFLIP. Hurhurhurhur…
T: That’s because of the fracture wasn’t it.
Sakura: Out of fear.
Sakura shared how she can’t take insects anymore, when she used to be able to catch them. Tegoshi said he’s the opposite. He used to hate insects, but since he started going to jungles, he grew to become okay with them.
M: No, wait. This isn’t what they’re asking for.
T: It’s because we were on insects that I talked about this.
M: Nobody’s asking you about it.
Tegoshi said there are more things he grew to become okay with than anything else. Maybe bungee jump. He jumped before in a programme, but he might not be able to jump anymore.
Sakura: What about haunted houses?
T: Ah, they’ve always been impossible. Always.
M: He’s basically a super scaredy cat.
T: Yeah a scaredy cat. It may seem like I’m not, since I’ve a really strong heart, but I started out being a real scaredy cat.
M: His heart was probably like jelly.
Sakura: Ew like all jiggly.

M: Wouldn’t it be awful if it’s just scary sounds all the time?
Sakura: True!
M: Like, “ta---da---- AHHHHH!”

They said that sounded fun, and moved on to the next mail. - The third mail was from someone whose dad has put on weight, and they’d like advice on how they can let him know they’d like him to lose weight, without hurting him. Tegoshi said he’d be happy to hear it if it came across positively, like, “You’ve always been a cool dad, right? But you’ve also put on some weight recently, right? I’d like everyone to see you as a cool dad, no matter where we go, so would you try working to become a cool dad again?” Sakura said she’s been saying similar things to her dad as she feels this will help him want to work harder.
M: That’s true… it’s important to make it sound that it’s not good to stay this way. All right, I’ll go with the same advice!
T: HAHAHHAHAH. Well, well. Yeah I guess that’s it.
They added that fathers usually are happy to hear their daughters calling them “cool”, or they can consider getting him one of those rollers to help him work those abs too. They said they’d like a daughter like this, who loves her dad and is concerned even about the way he looks.
T: Ah…. AH, AH, AH, AHHHHHHHHHHH!!
Sakura: This will get long, so let’s not go there.
T: Yup. Sorry. - The fourth listener was someone who tended to end their text messages with a full stop. They thought it was usual until their friends told them it seemed as though they were angry. They used to use exclamation marks a lot when they were in middle school, but people also told them it sounded as if they were angry. Do the three of them use full stops in their texts? And do they sound angry when they do?
Massu said it might be true. While it’s okay to end sentences like, “Got it.” with full stops, a sentence like, “I see.” and “I see :)” feel completely different. Tegoshi said he doesn’t really care, though he does use punctuation differently with different groups. With those super close, he doesn’t use any punctuations. But with sempais/ people more senior than him, he’d add some emojis/ kaomojis. Massu said adding with full stops might make one sound cold, but that applies across all groups. Sakura said there’s the impression of guys not using that many emojis. Tegomass agree, saying using too many feel kind of effeminate. They then added that texting would be made so much easier when both parties don’t care about such things, because it’d be so troublesome to have to keep explaining themselves. “Are you mad?” “Don’t read so much into it!” Massu then said they can just decide on one smiley to use for themselves, and just use that all the time, if that makes both parties happier. Since it doesn’t take much more effort to put a smiley in, in place of a full stop.
M: Or maybe 6 exclamations marks.
Sakura: That’s annoying. Annoying.
T: That’s one super powerful dude. - For “Quiz! Tegomass ni Oshiete” this week, the first question was a riddle.
Cat - 0 point. Dog - 1 point. Bear - 4 points. How many points is the horse? Massu answered 4 almost immediately, with Tegoshi answering just a couple seconds slower. They both said they knew it at “dog”. This has to do with how the kanji characters are written, and how many dots (pronounced “ten”, same as points in Japanese) there are. They then fooled around a bit, going “easy” in English, and Tegoshi popping a kanji on Sakura to ask her to guess how many points. She got it right.
(TL note: There's no reason for Massu to get this wrong though, since there was this.) - The second question was - it is round, but before you know it, it’s in the shape of a fish. What is it? Sakura gave a few hints, before Tegoshi got it - taiyaki. This question has to do with how the question was phrased, playing on both Japanese “ki ga tsuku” - when you add “ki”, and to how the object is round - tyres (pronounced as taiya). So taiya + ki = taiyaki, a fish shaped snack. Tegoshi then got excited then went “IKIRO! IKIRO!” a few times. Massu said it wasn’t that fun, he didn’t go, “Ah~~”, and that tyres aren’t that round to begin with…
Sakura: OKAY OKAY. - And moved on to the third question. A riddle again. What vegetables do humans find bitter? Just as Tegoshi answered “French beans”, Massu went “Bitter gourd”.
M: It HAS to be bitter gourd.
Sakura: Masuda-san, wait.
M: Bitter gourd.
Sakura: That isn’t a quiz.
M: It’s not bitter gourd?
Sakura: Everyone finds bitter gourd bitter. That’s to do with the taste. Not a riddle. Tegoshi-san, correct!
T: Thank you. This was easy. (he said easy in English).
Sakura got him to explain, and he said to replace ni with i (ni ga i), since bitter = nigai.
M: What? Repeat that again?
T: HAHAHAHA.
Sakura repeated it for him again, saying to replace ni of ningen with i, and you’d get ingen (french beans). They said it must be because Massu’s tired now.
M: I can’t think of anything other than the play now!
T: This feels good. This feels GOOD! THIS FEEL GOOD!

T: I’m going to keep winning for the rest of the year.

T: I’d say, “Sorry.”
M: You better say it properly.
Sakura: Go on your knees!
T: I get it.

He said while there basically isn’t any food that he dislikes, he realised recently that there are quite some items that he would never have eating by choice. For example, certain vegetables included as part of a salad, or certain meat parts. For drinks too. He would probably never order warm tea by choice, but he would drink it if served. So it’s the opposite for him, since he started realising recently that there are quite a number of things he didn’t like. Not that he disliked them though. It’s great the listener started drinking coffee though.
- The third listener wanted to know if Massu went to the local festival at his hometown, and if he still feels like going. He said he used to go every year when he was young, even everyday during the festival period. After he grew up, he’d still go with his friends from his hometown. Of course, everyone from that area knew he entered Johnny’s, but at such festivals, there are usually more visitors than locals. Once, when he went with his friends, someone recognised him and word started to spread. So he thought he’d move out from the middle of the crowd to the side. But the word just continued spreading, and people beside them were all saying, “Some celebrity is here!” “Who is it? Who is it?” And they were just passing by him. Without noticing him at all. It left a strong impression, and his friends were probably thinking, “It’s this guy!” Massu said the people who started spreading the message probably didn’t go, “Masuda is here!” but “A celebrity is here!” And that got everyone excited, thinking some big shot was there. He was glad everyone passed by him, because otherwise people might get disappointed when they find out it’s just him. He hasn’t been able to go recently though.
