- Shige said now that it’s September there are a lot of things he can finally discuss here so there’s a lot of letter build up that he wants to try ang get through.
- The first letter was from a listener who went to the Strawberry concert, and it was their first NEWS concert. They gave their thoughts on the concert and said that since they live in China due to their parents work, it’s not easy for them to make it to concerts, but they could this time since it fell over summer break. They said that thought that they might be the person who traveled the farthest to get to the concert out of those who were there. (S: Ah, that’s possible) They added that they were really happen when NEWS came to Shanghai, since very few Japanese artists come, and asked them to come again and hold a concert there.
Shige commented on how they don’t get a lot of opportunities to go abroad, though he’d like to dream that they can in the future. Shige also commented on how the listener is a 2nd year JHS student, and how fans like that, who didn’t know NEWS at the time when they debuted have increased. He talked about how they were conscious of that while making the concert, since there are fans who might not know the debut songs, or only listened to them well after the fact, they tried to make the concert so that fans who were there since the beginning could experience the nostalgia and new fans can experience it anew. They wanted old and new fans alike to be able to enjoy it, and for the experience to connect fans.
He talked about since it was an outdoors event, there are limitations and things that were difficult, hence the MC being cut the first day. He admitted that some things were their fault, there are things you can’t know until you go and try it, but that they put everything they had into doing what they could. They put everything into their singing and dancing. He said that it really felt that they had used up everything, and without thinking about the things he had to do the next day he decided to push his body to the limits for those two days. - ♪ ‘Ikiro’ ♪
- For music club this week, Shige said that there was a lot of good music being put out right now, and that he listens to a variety of music when traveling between jobs. This time he wanted to talk about the artist/DJ, Marshmello, who recently came out with a new song. He talked about Marshmello and how he wears a cute mask. He played his song, ‘Happier’, and talked about how it’s less about the singer’s own happiness but others becoming happier in the line, ‘I want you to be happier’.
- The next letter was from a listener who said that talked about the concert and how they were glad that the weather turned out well.
Shige talked about how he had been really worried about the weather too, and how they did a lot of preparation for the concert but, like with many things, there were things they couldn’t know until right before, but he was just hoping the weather would hold. As he wrote on his jweb, he thought that if it did rain all you can do is do everything you can to prepare for it and enjoy it. He said he was glad the weather held up, since the incident with bad weather during their 10th anniversary.
He said that he did really feel how difficult it is to do an outdoors concert, but also how great it is to overcome those difficulties. He also said that the set list for Dream Festival has been decided and said he hoped those who come enjoy themselves. - The next letter was from a listener who said that they went to the first day of the anniversary concert. They gave their thoughts on the concert and how they felt encouraged by ‘Ikiro’ and said it was really good and they wondered when they found time to rehearse. They mentioned how Shige does the videography for the concert, and asked if there were any parts that he was particular about this time.
Shige said that he did as much of the videography as he always does, and how he took up doing it in part to help relieve the burden on the other members (Massu), and had to rehearse less so that he could get it done. He said in regards to that this time they didn’t do solos since they didn’t have time to rehearse, and for the videos they couldn’t do anything that would require rehearsal since they should spend that time rehearsing for the concert. This concert was was less about having a strong concept, so they felt that there wasn’t a need to have super elaborate video, but they also know that fans want to see something new. So they decided to use the cake as a motif going off of ‘strawberry’ and how he wanted to represent their singles as cakes. But if you just leave them out in room temperature they’ll melt in the summer, so in the studio there was a huge refrigerator for them. He also specified that he didn’t want printed cakes, but ones with actual writing.
He also talked about how they had to do the photoshoot for the pamphlet first, but that they wanted to be unified with the concert. He talked about how they’ve done a lot of photoshoots before for magazines and the like where they’re asked to decorate cakes, but he thought the fans would be happy so see it in video format rather than just pictures.
He said he did all the videography, but that doesn’t mean he did it alone, he always confirmed things with the other members and bounced ideas off of Massu.
He talked about ‘Yoru yo Odore’ and how with an outdoors concert you can’t make atmosphere with lighting so you have to make up for that video. He said the video with the costumes was all Massu. - Shige was surprised to realize how long he’d spent talking just about the videography and moved on to the last song.

- The guest this week was Massu.
- They talked about how their formation anniversary was almost here and Massu talked about how they have so many different anniversary dates, so it’s not like he has a strong preference for September 15th anymore. Koyama mentioned how there’s also the date Nov. 7th when NEWS Nippon came out, and Massu mentioned how that’ a different date than both their formation and the date of their major debut. Koyama said that since the fans treasure September 15th, they do to and Massu agreed. They’re like, ‘Ah, that one? This is the one? Ok.’
They also talked about the ‘Ikiro’ release and the special anniversary box to arrive on the 15th with the Tshirt that was Massu’s idea. They talked about how they had the rock tshirt for Neverland and how Massu though after the fact it would be cool if you could see the pictures move, so he wanted to do it next time which is why they did it for this one during the final ending video at the concert. Koyama commented on how Massu has a lot of long term ideas, like the member color costumes. Massu said he was looking forward to all the letters from fans telling him how they liked them and started to read out the address, and Koyama said that if he did that then they’ll really get a lot. Koyama said that he’s probably already gotten a lot and Massu said he has gotten a lot to his radio, but thinks it’s fine if they also send a bunch to Koyama’s radio too.
Koyama asked Massu what he’d do next since he’s finished his round of member colored costumes. Massu said he’d go ‘brandless’ next time, all white costumes, though he said that the costumes for Strawberry were kind of like that, just Tshirts or Massu’s version of their debut outfits. Koyama said that the next time Massu uses color everyone will be paying close attention, and Massu said that was fine and he open to ideas. Koyama said he did have one idea of something he’d like to wear and said that he’d talk to Massu later. Massu brought up how for the opening outfits, they were because Koyama said that jersey costumes would be nice. They talked about how Massu goes about gathering items for their costumes, and how he specifies everything he wants. Koyama said that he likes seeing when Massu is picking things out of everything he’s gathered and Massu said that the stylists help too. Koyama said that Massu asks him if he’s good with the items but Massu is the one who decides. Koyama said it’d be nice to have the fans see this, if Massu wasn’t against it. Massu said that he was against it, and Koyama laughed saying that he thinks that’s when Massu is the most creative.
M: It’s hard for me to show my cool side.
K: It is?
M: I’ve never really shown it off.
K: Oh?
M: I thought it might be out of character.
K: Out of character….?
M: (in a funny voice) Massu is acting out of character.
K: No no you’re being out of character now.
(both crack up)
Koyama said he thinks it’d be good to show it some time. Massu said that since they’ve been working up to this for awhile a now, in a way it feels like they’ve used up all their ideas for now. Massu joked maybe they can just do simple suits, and Koyama commented on how it’s surprisingly hard to work in suits to a concert, and Massu said that they could have the word ‘Suits’ written on the back. - ♪ ‘Ikiro’ ♪
- The next letter was from a listener who said that King and Prince recently appeared on VS Arashi, and they were asked what sempai they looked up to, and Takahashi Kaito said that he looks up to Nakajima Kento (Sexy Zone) and Massu. (M: I’m happy to hear that! We resemble each other K: Huh, resem…?) Before Mr. King also said that they wanted to become a group like NEWS. The listener wanted to know if Massu was particularly close with Kaito and if they had any stories about any of the other members of King and Prince.
Koyama commented on how Massu talks with King and Prince a lot when they’re in the same place. Massu said he does, he’s close with Hirano and Kaito. Massu said that he doesn’t really know Prince, but he meets up with the members of King. Koyama asked what started that and Massu said that they appeared in a show that has sempai guesting and he was one of them. He has Hirano and Kaito’s numbers and they ask him for advice about singing and various things, and they keep saying they should get food but haven’t found time to go yet.
Koyama brought up how Kaito said Massu and Kento and asked if Massu and Kento were similar and Massu said that they were. Koyama asked what was similar about them, and Massu said their faces. Koyama laughed a bit said that they’re both cool, but they don’t really look alike, he asked if he meant that they’re both sexy and Massu said no. Koyama brought up how Kento always says ‘sexy’ and Massu agreed saying ‘sexy rose’, Sato Shori’s line from their debut song. They probably inherited that from him. Koyama said Bambina’s probably the best Massu can muster, and Massu said Bambina’s more than that.
Massu talked about how sparkly King and Prince’s debut costumes were and how when NEWS debuted they were just in sweatshirts. Koyama brought up how in their concert too King and Prince had an amazing set and were sitting in thrones. Massu commented how when they debuted they barely had any set. They ended by saying that that’s fine though, and that King and Prince’s debut song is really good and they’re looking forward to their next song. - The next song was from a listener who said that they’ve been getting up early, they end up waking up at 5 am every day and so in the morning they read and study and that while that’s fine they’re having trouble sleeping and when they begin thinking ‘Why is Massu so cool’ they have even more trouble falling asleep. Since they still wake up really early, they’re sleepy but think of it as ‘It can’t be helped, Massu was keeping me awake.’ however they’d like to sleep properly and asked what she should do.
M: I see, sorry for being so cho- cool….
Koyama teased him for flubbing what he was saying at such an important point and Massu said it was because he was sleepy. Koyama said that maybe the listener will listen to the radio tonight and not be able to fall asleep but still end up getting up at 5am, so at the end of the radio maybe Massu should say ‘Good night’. Massu protested that even after their radio show ends there’s still other programs on after it which they should consider. Koyama argued that there will be some people who will go to sleep after their show. Koyama said that Massu would say good night in ‘a cool way’ at the end, and Massu amended that by saying he would if possible. Koyama commented on how really doesn’t resemble Kento at all, because Kento would say ok! right away.
M: Oh really? Ok then.
They then played a coupling from ‘Ikiro’ for the first time. - ♪ Bring back to the summer ♪
- At the end they did promo for Zero and ‘Ikiro’. Massu asked Koyama if would be appearing in Zero too, and Koyama said that he would. Massu asked if it’s all been decided and Koyama said he’s heard a bit, but like with Tegoshi they keep considering things up till the last minute, he still hasn’t gotten his script yet. Massu said that he was looking forward to it. Koyama said that for those going to sleep, Massu would say something for them. They talked for a bit more about how and when Massu should say it, and Koyama said that though Massu was talking about being like Kento, Massu should say it not like Kento would but as he himself would after they say goodbye.

- At the opening, they talked about it being September already. Tegoshi started talking in some funny tone and the other two asked if he was going to continue for the rest of the programme in that tone, he said, “Of course!”
M: He’d probably start losing confidence soon.
Sakura: Yeah he’d stop soon.
T: No no no, you see, today is...
M, Sakura: He’s stopped, he’s stopped!
He said he wanted to move on to the segments soon so he thought he’d try to get over with the opening quicker.
T: What do you think!
Sakura: Anything goes...
M: Hurhurhurhur!
Tegoshi said that’s not good, and suddenly made a high-pitched and loud sound. Then asked them to guess who he was imitating. It’s a way of hyping the audience up. The two of them were confused, and made a few guesses like Sunshine Ikezaki, Inaba (from B’z) etc.
T: Hint! “Dream Festival”.
M: Ah I got it. Little Glee Monster.
T: NO! The five of them would never go *his weird high-pitched sound again*.
He gave another hint saying it’s an artiste he likes very much, to which Sakura guessed CHEMISTRY, but that was wrong too. He finally said it’s ToshI from X JAPAN. He went on to say that they’d be appearing on the second day of Dream Festival, and X JAPAN the first day. He’d like to go if he could, but he’s got the live telecast of “Soccer Earth” the same day. So if it looks like he’d make it in time he’d want to go see them.
T: So that was my imitation of ToshI-san. Let’s move on to the request then!
The other two protested that the opening ended up long because of him, and after ToshI-san’s imitation it’s already time for the ending. - Moving on to the request, it was from someone who went to watch the anniversary concert. They became a fan from listening to Tegomass’ songs before NEWS’, but it was the first time they’ve ever heard Tegomass live. They were very happy for that, and felt again that there’s a certain harmony that only Tegomass can come up with. They hope to hear more of Tegomass and it’s their dream to hear “Hikari” live someday. They talked about how there’s been a lot on it being NEWS’ 15th anniversary, but it’s also Tegomass’ 10th anniversary. The concerts for NEWS and Tegomass are constructed completely differently, and it’d be nice if they could do something as Tegomass again.

- The second message was from someone who usually spends their time at home in their lounge wear and their fringe tied up. They received a package in that get up recently, and got really embarrassed when the delivery staff went, “Ahh!” at them. Has the three of them been seen in a state they’d rather not be seen in? Also, how do they usually look like at home? Tegoshi said he likes that, lounge wear and their hair up. Massu said he dresses the same way, except he does tie his fringe up, but uses one of those curly metal hairbands.
T: AHAHAH! AH! AHAHAH! AHAH! AHHH!
(laughter in the studio)
Sakura: What? What is it!
T: I got it, I got it. Ah ah ah, I got it.
Massu said he’s usually wearing that, and Tegoshi asked if his hair doesn’t look funny when he gets out. Massu replied he always showers in the morning so all’s good. Tegoshi was surprised Massu uses that at home and said he’s just in the usual stuff (like he’s wearing at the radio recording, tshirt + shorts) at home, nothing special.
Sakura: Did you come in your lounge wear?
T: Here we go again. Nope.
M: We wouldn’t wear such things at home even, would we.
Sakura: Ah I see I see…
M: That’d be embarrassing even at home.
Tegoshi clarified he wasn’t in his lounge wear and he’s usually in NEWS’ tour tees or the one from Tegomass no Seishun. And just receive delivery packages in that get up.
M: People probably think, “Ah, this person is cheerful!” when you wear the Seishun tee.
T: Yeah so I just receive packages like that. What, why?
(Sakura laughs)
T: What, what? I’m perfectly serious now.
Massu asked if Tegoshi changes out of his clothes when he gets home (he does), and if that isn’t meaningless since he’s just changing into the same things. He said when he goes out he wears stuff from proper brands, and at home it’s the tour tees.
They asked how Sakura is at home, and she said since her fringe is center-parted and long, she usually has them pinned up both sides. They said that’s like Superfly and the hairband she used to wear. Tegoshi said it must be tough for females with long hair and Sakura said it is, especially during summer. She takes about 20mins to dry her hair. She’s started using dry shampoo, for when it feels gross when she starts perspiring again after her bath. Massu said the staff prepared that for him when he went on the survival trip. Tegoshi said it’s really tough for girls (M: We take only like 2-3 mins to dry our hair, right?) and it’s really easy for males, since they don’t need to wear make up, don’t get queues at the toilet… Sakura asked if they’ve ever thought of wanting to try becoming females.
T: I’d want to try once, but being a girl forever would be rough.
Sakura: Yeah it would. What were we talking about again?
Tegoshi said they properly answered the listener’s question so all’s good, and they concluded saying tying the fringe up is cute. - The third message was from someone who went to watch Massu’s play and wanted to ask them the difference between acting for a play and for a drama. Are there differences between singing at musicals and at concerts? Massu said the acting just adapts according to the environment. There are definitely differences, for example making sure their voices are loud enough to be heard for plays. There won’t be a need for super fine details in their eyes either, since people won’t be able to tell very well even if they rolled their eyes. So it’s easier to express the same emotion through body actions. For dramas, more details in the acting would make sense. Sakura asked if drama acting tends to be more natural than that of stage plays, and they said it depends on the role. Massu said he was ever told not to cry too much for plays, as if they get caught up in crying, the audience would get left behind. More reality is demanded from crying too. It probably depends on the director too, but apparently it’s sometimes better not to cry for real for plays. They said it depends on the director. Like for Kotaro, what Tegoshi envisioned initially wasn’t what the director and producer had wanted. So they’d talk things through at times like these.
Tegoshi asked if there’re times when “You don’t want people to watch you as ‘Masuda Takahisa’?” (M: Yeah.) Tegoshi said he often feels that way. For example, if there’re kissing scenes in a play, it’s not as if Masuda Takahisa was kissing someone; it’s the role he’s playing. But people go, “Ah, no!” It’s not Masuda Takahisa doing it, nor Tegoshi. It’s acting, it’s the role. So he hopes people would look at things that way. Massu agreed, saying how comments like, “Tegoshi-kun was great,” don’t make them as happy as comments on the role. When people tell him, “Massu was xxx”, it makes him feel he didn’t manage to play the role well. They said acting is fun and will do their best to take up challenges of different aspects. - While reading the opening for “Tegomass no Debate” this week, Massu messed up and said “Debate” straight.
T: Ahhh… here we go again. How many times have we done this already!
M: I went, “de-”
T: We’ve never ever said, “DEBATE!” have we?
M: HAHAHHAHAA.
Sakura: Why did you say “debate” now!
M: Sorry.
They said how it’s been a while since they last did the debate and Sakura told them to do it properly.
The first debate question was, which makes their hearts race more? A: A person who used to wear spectacles switching to contact lenses. B: A person who used to wear contact lenses switching to spectacles.
They both chose B. Tegoshi said it’s not unusual for people to switch from spectacles to contacts, and there must have been chances to see the person without the spectacles in school. When they’re changing, for example.
M: Why are you there when they are changing?
T: Ah, I’m not.
M: Why are you there!
T: I’m not! But look, like for swimming lessons and all?
M: But there will be goggles.
T: Yeah, but when they change-
M: Where are you there when they’re changing!
T: That’s right. There’s no way I can be.
M: It’s worse to be around when they’re changing into swimsuits!
Sakura: Were you around, to be honest?
T: I wasn’t.
Tegoshi tried to say it’s better to wear spectacles, though that’s not quite the same as female teachers. The other two started snubbing him and he said everyone had fantasies of being taught by female teaches in red spectacles.
T: You don’t get it? Ah I guess females won’t.
Sakura: It’s not just females who don’t.
M: I don’t either.
T: You didn’t want to be taught by someone who wore spectacles?
M: Nope.
T: That’s all I have to say.
Massu said it’s B for him too, if the setting is in school like “Nobuta wo Produce”. He said it’s not limited to just people switching from contacts to spectacles, but for people who don’t usually wear spectacles too, like those without power in the lenses. Wearing spectacles is just a plus. So B. - The next question: Which would they not want people to see? A: Their sleeping face. B: Their crying face. Sakura said everyone has their predictions for TM’s choices, but won’t tell them now in case they got affected. Massu chose A, Tegoshi chose B. Turns out everyone predicted correctly too.
M: Correct!
Sakura: We’re not checking answers now.
T: We’re not fighting for anything either.
Sakura: You’re doing that again? You had the faces of doing that again since just now.
T: Why does the answer have to be limited to just one?
Sakura: Because this is such a segment.
M: But we have completely different personalities.
They continue trying to annoy Sakura and then decided to try arguing with each other.
M: Tegoshi, what do you think?
T: B.
M: I think so too!
Sakura: Why! Argue!
M: Hurhurhurhurhur!
Going back, Tegoshi said he’d definitely not want anyone to see him crying, but his sleeping face is cute. (silence) Massu said he doesn’t have the impression of Tegoshi’s sleeping face being cute so that’s probably not the case. Tegoshi said he was sleeping in the making of for one of the PVs, probably “Koi wo Shiranai Kimi E”, and when he found his sleeping face cute. But he doesn’t want to be seen crying, like how there are some programmes who follow idols around, and there are scenes of them crying. He always thinks they should just quit being an idol. (M, Sakura: Hmm?) He continued saying how they shouldn’t cry before the TV.
T: I get it, I get it. That’s how much I hate being seen crying.
M: He said “I get it” himself because no one else would.
Tegoshi continued going on about how even though it was embarrassing he cried at the surprise at the final concert of EPCOTIA, those were tears of happiness. But he wouldn’t want to be seen when he’s crying out of helplessness. Also not when he’s touched.
Sakura: That’s the same as tears of happiness isn’t it.
T: Okay then.
Sakura: He changed his mind.
M: He ended up changing his mind. You’re probably not be very smart. You should cry now.
For Massu, he said he wouldn’t want to be seen in either situation, but it’s easier to hide a crying face. Tegoshi then jumped in to talk about how nobody gets to choose how they look when they sleep and wouldn’t you hate that?
Sakura: Yeah. It’d be the sleeping face for me.
T: Right.
M: What “right”. Oh man he’s… why did you jump in midway through my comment!
Tegoshi asked Sakura to make the judgement but she said Massu didn’t even manage to say much. Massu said while sleeping he’s defenceless, but when crying he can still try to hide it. Sakura gave it to Massu. Tegoshi protested saying the question wasn’t in his favour to begin with.

They also get goosebumps each time they recall the image of each member wearing a costume from the past concerts. They congratulated NEWS on the 15th anniversary and pledged their continuous support.
