• The Sep 21 episode of “Shonen Club Premium” will be a 15th anniversary special. They will perform a 20-minute long medley, incorporating every one of their singles since debut.  (Source)


• It was announced on Sep 13 that there will be two parts to the spin-off episode for Koyama’s role in Zero. The first part will be released on Hulu Japan right after the drama’s finale, and the second part on Sep 23. (Source)


• Shige will be appearing on the Sep 26 episode of “Crazy Journey”. (Source)

  • It was Tegoshi’s turn to update
  
  
  • He wrote about being excited to perform for people who don’t usually see NEWS at TV Asahi’s Dream Festival.
    For shiritori he picked ‘suzushii (cool)’ because the weather has been cooling down and he said it feels nice out to play sports and take Emma on walks.
    He said that he’s got Skull on his lap and Emma chewing on his game case so he’s happy. He also said that he’s really happy to be able to perform a Dream Festival and the Music station Ultra Fes, and that he would keep practicing and research to be able to sing even better songs.
    He said that they made the set list for Dream Fest to try and show off a new side of NEWS’ appeal.

  • Koyama updated to write about the anniversary, he congratulated everyone and said thank you. He said that on that day NEWS was rehearsing for the Ultra Music FES, and he was filming the Mitsuru Hulu sp. It’s thanks to everyone that he was able to feel so loved and happy on their anniversary.
    He also included a picture of himself in front of an advertisement for the Ultra Music FES where you can see him on the poster.

  • Shige wrote that NEWS turned 15 years old, and thanked everyone. He also wrote about filming for Zero ending, and that he hasn’t been able to gather his thoughts on it yet though they’re still filming for the spin off.
    He said that he thought he learned a lot doing this drama, and that ‘this guy’ (Sato Ryuga) also grew a lot. He said that he’d like it if they both grew more and were able to work together again in the future.
    He included a picture of him and Ryuga in their costumes, with the chicken mask peeking out form over his shoulder.

  • He said that it was NEWS’ 15th anniversary and thanked everyone. He said that though a lot of things have happened, he’s living every day happily and said thank you again.
    He said he would work hard to make others happy. He said that NEWS is only 15 years old, and asked for everyone’s support so that they can keep on growing. At the end he added in English ‘I Love You & thank you’ and said that he would write it on his hand.

  • He wrote about “Dream Festival”, how he’s thankful the fans created an atmosphere that’s easy for non-fans to join in too. He’d do his best to gain from such new experiences so as to give a better performance the next concert.
    He shared how he was filming for part 2 of the spin-off episode for “Zero”, and promoted “Ultra FES” that night. He then ended with a photo of him holding Shige’s uchiwa from Strawberry and “LOVE SHIGECHAN❤️”
  
  

• air:man tweeted on Sep 11 to say that even though he’s received the sample, he’ll be going to buy (the single). He asked if everyone had gotten their copies, and that he’d be heading to Tower Records after work. He ended by saying “Ikiro” is one sincere song. (Source)


• On Sep. 11th, her0ism tweeted about the release of ‘Ikiro’ saying that it’s a support song packed with emotion. He said that he filled it with his gratefulness to the members who he’s been with for over 10 years, staff, family, and friends. He asked everyone to check it out. He tweeted again a little bit later the same day about the coupling songs on the single, saying that one he personally loves, Endless Summer, is included on the tracklist. He also mentioned Strawberry and Bring Back the Summer, and said that it’s a CD that he’s really glad was put out into the world, and that he hopes it’ll reach many people.

• Go-chan, the mascot for TV Asahi, also tweeted a bunch of tweets related to NEWS on the day of their appearance on Dream Festival, and here’re just a few of them:

• Dream Festival reports:

  • Set list: Chankapana, BLUE, Koi Matsuri, Ikiro, madoromi, Yoruyo Odore, JUMP AROUND, BLACK HOLE, KAGUYA, U R not alone, weeeek

  • Overall performance: They were the last performing group for the day. There was a short opening VTR. The narration sounded like it was taken off the compass opening from 10th anniversary tour at the Dome, with new footage - black and white close ups of their features.
    They got everyone to start using towels from “BLUE”, and asked everyone to continue using them for “Koi Matsuri”.
    They also used the carts for “Koi Matsuri”, with KoyaTego going down stage right and ShigeMass starting off stage left. They switched sides in the middle, but came back to the main stage same sides as they started out.
    The juniors joined in from “Yoruyo Odore”. Likely the same juniors who followed them on the EPCOTIA tour. Koyama and Massu wore shades during the rock set.
    There were streamers at the end of “weeeek”, light blue with “tv asahi DREAM FESTIVAL 2018” printed on them.
  
  
  • After they came back to the main stage after going round the venue in the carts for “Koi Matsuri”, they did a short MC, starting with calls (“MEN!” “WOMEN!” etc.) to get the audience hyped up.
    K: Let me try asking this. People who’re watching NEWS for the first time today!
    There were quite some. And while Massu was walking back to the stage from the cart, he saw a camera on him and started to fix his hair using the camera.
    Koyama said they usually talk 20-30 mins for their MC, but have to keep it to 3-5mins for that day.
    T: Because there’re songs to sing.
    M: Well there’s also the option of talking for 30 mins.
  
  
  • They talked about how Tegoshi came to watch the festival the day before:
    K: Tegoshi, you came here on your private time yesterday, right?
    S: Who [did you come to see]?
    T: Hyde-san!! Yesterday X Japan was the last main act, and today it’s us… they were amazing. Yeah yeah I did the X Jump!!
    S: You did!? Do it now!
    T: Eh….

  • They then asked everyone to try doing that.
    T: X??? Okay I don’t really get this but let’s do this at “ready, go”.
    They decided to change it to N instead of X, with everyone raising their right hand to form the N.
    T: It’s fine to do it as far as you can without hitting the person beside you.
    M: Be careful not to be whacked by the person on your left too.
    T: READY GO!
    (audience jumps)
    T: THIS IS GOOD!
    S: But hey, we have a song that requires jumping, don’t we?
    K: We do!
    S: We don’t know. We don’t know if we’ll sing it today, but we have this song called “weeeek”.
    Massu then started talking again about how even the fans don’t jump during the song anymore. Cutting ends as time goes by. Koyama asked everyone (both fans, and first-timers) to jump along during the song.
    S: Let’s give our best too. Though we don’t know if we’re singing the song!
    K: No. Of course we will!
  
  
  • Tegoshi talked about how while there might be many who’re seeing them for the first time today, they’ve prepared lots of songs that everyone can join in, like swinging the towel etc. so let’s all have fun together!!! Massu added that they hope everyone would remember NEWS after today, and they talked about how the costumes were designed by Massu too.
    This set was similar to the cape looking set they wore for Strawberry, except that he used the Tshirts from “Dream Festival” (you can see the entire lineup here) to make them. He also had the Doraemon from the tote (M: I cut it up secretly, without letting the TV asahi staff know). This set was made specially for that day.
    K: They’re telling us to move on to the songs.
    M: But the costumes. Let’s talk about them for 30 mins.
    K: Talk about it on the web!
    M: Web? Okay so the continuation will be on Johnny’s web!
  
  
  • Introducing the next song was Shige, who said NEWS turned 15 the day before. They’re really happy to be able to sing a song like this at such a timing. The song is filled with lots of messages. They’d be happy if the song can be delivered to lots of people everywhere. Koyama added how the situation isn’t so great for some areas in Japan due to the natural disasters recently, so they’d do their best to sing this song so that it reaches people in these areas too. (They sing “Ikiro”)
  
  
  • Before singing “U R not alone”, Tegoshi did a reeeeeallllly long introduction to the song. Like how while they have a song like “Ikiro”, they also have another one to give people strength, how everyone probably each have their own issues…… if everyone sings loudly, they’d get power too…... Koyama started walking off to the far end to gesture to the audience how Tegoshi was talking too much, and finally jumped in to stop him.
    K: You're talking so much!
    T: I’m really happy!
    They finally started teaching everyone the melody to the “oooooh ooooh ohohohoh” part. Tegoshi would sing first and asked everyone to remember. But obviously since there were fans there, everyone joined in halfway and when he finished singing just one time,
    T: You guys remember now?
    The rest told him the audience needs more practice than that.
    M: So let’s do this another 13 times.
    S: You can do better! It's okay to kill your voice; it's a public holiday tomorrow, isn't it??
    They practiced with the audience a few more times (with Massu singing in a low voice with everyone). Before starting the song, Tegoshi said he’d give everyone the cue, and he did. “3, 2, 1 COME ON!”
  
  
  • During “U R not alone”, they were standing in the order of Koyama, Tegoshi, Massu, Shige, with TegoMass nearer the center of the stage and KoyaShige going down to the ends closer to the audience. When they got to the part after the first chorus, ShigeMass first faced each other, then put their arms round each other at the end of their part together (“KYAAAA!!!!!” Koyama looked over to see what happened, paused for a second, and started running towards Tegoshi. To put his arm around Tegoshi, of course.)
