    • The first letter was from a listener who said that they read NEWS’ article in Lettuce Club and brought up how Shige said that once he was looking forward to when he would be finished filming for his drama. They asked if he wanted to write or go places or what else he wanted to do once he finished.
Shige said that he did want to write though it’s not an easy process, but he is making progress on it. He said that he does also want to take time to refresh, and after not having time to for awhile he was able to go see a few movies. He watched movies, read books and manga and went fishing. But if he spends too much time playing then his time to write will dwindle so allotting time has still been not the easiest task. So he’s grateful to be getting a lot of work, but a complete refresh hasn’t really been possible. There’s a lot going on towards both NEWS’ future work and his own, where’s he’s trying lots of new things. Among all that he also is working on writing. Because of that he hasn’t had the time to really missing filming for zero like he thought he would. He thinks it’s also a testament to how he put everything into it.

    • For music club this week Shige talked about Zazen Boys formed by Shutoku Mukai, who he’s played on the radio before. He talked about a video he saw of various artists performing, including Mukai and he thought he was super cool. He talked about how the song ‘Roppon no Kurutta Hagane no Shindou (The Vibration of Six Crazy Steel Strings)’ really resonated with him. After that he had filming for Typewriters so he talked to Matayoshi about it, and they talked about how amazing it was and Matayoshi recommended him another video of a song of their to listen to, ‘Jimonjitou’ and Shige thought that was great too. He said that he’s really encouraged by Mukai, and other artists’, music when he’s at a standstill. It also made him think about how lucky he is to be in that position as an artist as well and that he can’t sing half assedly. He played the song ‘Roppon no Kurutta Hagane no Shindou’.

    • The next letter was from a listener who asked Shige if there’s anything he likes cooking right now.
Shige said that he’s finally had time to start cooking again, around when Zero started he was losing weight, but once the drama fully started he was eating a lot of single dish meals, for example curry or rice bowls so he’s been thinking that he wants to get back in shape and lose some weight. He said that around the time when he lost a lot of weight he ate a lot of horsemeat- horsemeat and mushrooms, for about half a year that was the base he would start from when cooking. It’s pretty good with instant ramen.
During the drama filming there were times when he really wanted to shop, say for home electronics, not necessarily for stress relief but since he couldn’t really go anywhere he wanted to buy something new. He talked about buying a Sous vide, a bar-like cooking device that you use by sticking into an airtight container and cook things at a low temperature for a long time. It allows you to cook high quality things really easily. He bought it though he didn’t have much time to cook. Char siu for example would take about 15 hours to cook, so if you don’t have a lot of time it’s hard to use, as he wrote in his NEWS RING entry. He said that it’s been fun to use and talked about a new things he’s been able to make how it keeps things tender. He made various things with it, getting it set up when he’s taking a break from writing and then returning to writing while it cooks. He said that during that time, by chance, he saw his dad and he told Shige that he recently got hooked on using Sous Vide. Shige said that they always end up getting hooked on things at the same time and it made him laugh. Before they’ve both gotten hooked on smoking things (cooking). He said that that amused him, but that it’s really fun and convenient so he would recommend it.

    • The next letter was from a listener who said that they watched him on ‘Fuka ii Hanashi’ they said that they couldn’t stop laughing when even when the prank was revealed [to the young shige fan on the show] and she still didn’t realized the listener couldn’t stop laughing. They asked for him to share behind the scenes stories.
Shige said that it really was an honor for someone to want him to surprise someone on TV. He said it made him feel like a star and he was excited. It also took place in Mie-ken where he had never been before. He said that it was fun, even though in general he doesn’t like surprises or pranks, so part of him also felt bad for tricking her since he’s not good at lying. So he felt really bad when she started crying, but he was glad that in the end she was really happy [to see him]. Though he knows that there are a lot of people out there who support him, there aren’t very many opportunities to hear their voices in person, so it really made him feel supported and like he wanted to continue to do his best. It made him feel like a star and also guilty for making her cry.
He said that though he’s been in the studio before, it’s rare to be able to go on location for Fukaii Hanashi, so it was refreshing and he got to see staff he’s worked with before too so it was a fun shoot.

    • The last letter was from a listener who said that they’re a 4th year university student and they’ve gotten all their credits all that’s left it to write their thesis, however they still haven’t found a job for after graduation. Most of the people around them have gotten offers so they feel very uneasy and they’ve lost confidence, they’re giving up. They asked Shige what he would do if he were in their position. Would he keep chasing his dream or give up?
Shige said that he really wants to be able to tell her that he wouldn’t give up on his dream, but he’s lived his life never having thought that deeply about  a crossroad like that, so he’s not able to empathize with her situation.
He said that recently he saw Amuro Namie on ItteQ say ‘Your dreams will come true’ and though everyone probably knows about it, those simple words gave him courage. He knows the phrase is a bit irresponsible, but having Amuro Namie say that with a smile right before her retirement, it transcended reality and responsibility- it’s a bit obscure, but it made him look up to that strength. Though it’s not his own words, he thinks that perhaps it could have meaning coming from him, and lately he’s been thinking that reality doesn’t matter, and the importance for following your dream like a fool. You’ll face tough times, even if your dream comes true you will. But he wants to tell them that their dreams will come true. That’s what he personally thinks. But it’s the listener’s life, so the final decision is up to them. He encouraged them to do their best and said he’s supporting them.

    • T: Hello, this is Michael Jackson!
      K: Hello, Michael Jackson
      T: This is it! Woo!
Koyama said that usually they record this fairly late starting around 8 or 9pm, but this time they’re starting after noon and this is Tego’s second job today but it’s the first one for him so this is the first time he’s spoken today. Tegoshi said he must have spoken to Milk, and Koyama said that he does tell her good morning, but he doesn’t just talk to her. Tegoshi yelled a bit and Koyama asked him if it’s ok. He’s worried since it’s only just after noon, and Tegoshi replied that he’s fine because
T: I have stamina, my gasoline is diesel.
T: What do you call that again? What is it that can go for a long time?
      K: Hm, what was it….

T: Hybrid!! My synaps are dead! My brain’s synaps are dead!
They laughed at themselves and how they couldn’t come up with the word hybrid, then talked about how it was announced that they would be doing the countdown concerts. They said that they’re really happy and thankful, and that this is the first time they’d be welcoming in the new year in Osaka. They said that they wanted to do Hatsumode in Osaka too.
Koyama also talked about how they’re inheriting this opportunity from the Kinki Kids who have done it for a long time. So they wanted to do it properly as their Kohai, and still want to appear in the Johnny’s Countdown broadcast if possible through VTR.

They said they really have had a lot of opportunities to perform for fans this year. Koyama brought up how even though Tegoshi loves performing for the fans, he also really wanted to perform in a different setting too. Tegoshi said that being able to performing for non-fans is an opportunity to try and show off NEWS. For example, Dream Festival and Songs of Tokyo were both good chances to show the lives they create with the fans in other places. It’s just Koyama and Tegoshi in the booth this time. The first letter was from a listener who said it was their first time writing in. (K: Wow, and it got picked! T: You have amazing sense!!!) They said that they wanted advice from the love master, Tegoshi, and Koyama. They said that they were invited to go out to drink by someone they dated in highschool 12 years ago. They replied that they wanted to, but they haven’t ever spoken since they broke up and their memories of when they were together are pure and they don’t know how to react. They wanted advice on how to ease their nerves, and added that they’re doing their best dieting.
Tegoshi wondered if it was really necessary to ease them. He said that he thinks you should treasure this feeling and even encourage it and Koyama agreed. They commented on how nice the situation is, and how it’d make you excited. Koyama commented that if she’s dieting then she might also want to get back together. Tegoshi said that maybe she doesn’t want him to think that she’s changed or gained weight since he knew her 12 years ago. He praised her strictness to be able to keep with it. They commented on how she should show him that she’s grown into an even better woman, and Tegoshi said that the man can’t let himself slip either. Koyama said that the correct answer was ‘cute’ and Tegoshi said it made sense since women are all princesses. The listener said that they’re of course happy to hear ‘Thank you’ and ‘I love you’ but ‘cute’ makes them feel recognized as both a person and a woman. They said that Tegoshi saying his fans are cute is enough to make them happy. They wanted to know what Koyama and Tegoshi like hearing from their fans the most. What do they think about being called cute?
Koyama said that there are a lot things that are included in the word ‘cute’ and Tegoshi listed personality, mannerisms, looks, everything. Koyama noted that affection is also included and Tegoshi agreed.
Tegoshi said that from men it’s ‘Tegoshi’s such a great guy’ that makes him really happy and Koyama said that he agreed. Koyama said that recently when he went golfing, the caddie said to his friend when he wasn’t there, ‘Koyama’s really a good person’ and it made him happy. Tegoshi said that since they appear on TV, they end up just being judged on that character they show on TV. Of course there are people who are different on screen and off, and Tegoshi said that he likes between told that he’s the same on and off screen, and he gets told that a lot. And Koyama said that it’s really true for him, most people probably have a strong image of him as being lively and energetic and he really is like that. Koyama said that actually he would like Tegoshi to be quieter off screen, rather than being different on screen and off, it’s like Tegoshi has no off switch, he also has no ‘neutral’ setting he’s always on ‘drive’.
They said they also like it when women say that about them, but that there’s also a bit of distance there. Koyama said you want a bit more friendliness, like ‘It’s always fun when I’m with you, Tegoshi’ and Tegoshi added ‘You’re more than just your looks’ and Koyama said he thought for Tegoshi ‘You’re actually pretty mature’ since Tegoshi’s mischievousness can come off as childish, but when you talk to him he actually has a pretty manly side to him.
T: And it makes me happy when women call me ‘kind’, since my looks go without saying.
      K: Yeah- huh? What? What?
Tegoshi burst out laughing and said that everyone says he’s cool so it’s like ‘ok ok I know’ and Koyama jokingly scolded him for saying that and Tegoshi pretended to laugh obnoxiously to which Koyama said that people would say ‘Tegoshi, you’re so annoying’ He then said that he did understand though, being told you’re kind makes you kinder. He said that men are simple so women’s words are like magic. They also talked about how women might not think it’s good to make physical contact, but men really like it, it immediately makes their heart race. Tegoshi said it’s like that Buruzon Chiemi bit, it’s like ‘you want it from the cellular level and did a weird ‘Muhahaha’ laugh that he then tried to get Koyama to imitate. Massu said they probably start around 3 months before, decide on the general stuff. Two months before, they’ll have a general idea on what to include. Then a month before, they’ll going into full preparation mode with more frequent meetings, dancing and singing practices etc. They’re always thinking about concerts regardless of the timing though. For instance, they were already thinking about the W concert when creating the “NEVERLAND” tour. Like, because we’re doing this here so let’s do this then. And do this for the E concert. Do this for the S concert etc. They don’t only start thinking of what to do just 3 months before the concert, but already have something in mind by then. He also meets up with the concert staff to discuss possibilities, even if there aren’t concerts in the plan at the moment. He feels it’s better to always be ready and prepared. The staff probably start preparing even earlier than them, though there’re times when they don’t get enough time too. The period when they’re creating the concerts are the best. But because everyone likes chocolate, we interpret the blocks in a positive way, thinking they’re there to make it easier for sharing. This bit of the lyrics is him trying to throw a little question out at us, saying that no matter what happens, a lot can change depending on how you see things. So let’s try to stay kind. The chorus bit of his lyrics is him wanting to write messages on his hand - “thank you” and “I love you”, like how he sometimes writes them on his hand during his concert. Like how the other members have said in other radio programmes etc., he talked about how this is the first time they each wrote their parts with zero idea of what the rest are going to write. It’s also named “Strawberry” because of the play on how it sounds similar to “15” in Japanese. It’d be nice if this could become a significant song to NEWS, their fans, and those who hear this song in the future.

    • At the ending, he promoted Epcotia Encore concerts, and joked how maybe they should start counting down from 10,000 instead of the usual 20 or 30 seconds to midnight people usually do.
