news_jpop | New NHK BS4K drama for Massu!

It was announced on 10 May that Massu will be in a new drama SP on NHK BS4K. Part of a series of drama adaptations of Fujiko F Fujio's SF short stories, Massu will be appearing in "Iyana iyana iyana yatsu" (11 Jun, 10:50pm JST) as Mizumori.

This is a one-off drama, and from previous adaptations of the same series, it seems like each episode will only be 15 minutes long. Other cast members in the same story include Hagiwara Masato, Nomaguchi Toru, Asari Yosuke, Iijima Hiroki, Sakai Wakana, and Takenaka Naoto.

Brief summary of the story:
It is the Space Age. There's a lot of travelling from planet to planet in spaceships, and travellers are stuck in constrained spaces together for extended periods of time. Life in the spaceship is harsh, and inevitably gives rise to disagreements and fights.
In one of these spaceships were 6 crew members. Their space mission was going well, but tensions were rising. Out of the 6 members, Mizumori was a jerk disliked by everyone, always appearing at the worst timings and saying things that worsened situations. The crew members begin to unite against Mizumori as they descend to earth. However, Mizumori actually has a secret…

Massu's comment:
"This time, I played a villain who is so bad, you'd wonder if someone like that actually exists. It was a really interesting experience. I've read the original manga several times, and played the role while considering what Mizumori, with his secret, must have had in mind in each scene.
I practised how Mizumori laughs in the original work so I could recreate it, and got the director's approval at one try. It was really fun to have been able to work with such a stellar cast. It's the first time I acted as a jerk this bad, please watch this and hate me! (lol)"

(Takenaka’s comment touched on Massu’s laughter as Mizumori - “It was awesome”)
