Potato 2007/08 NEWS

Yamashita Tomohisa

"I won't be late for work no matter what!"

I was busy with filming for the dorama "Propose Daisakusen" from April onwards, but I used my time as good as I could, I think. The filming locations were fun too, after all. Especially with our group of five friends, I got along well with all of them. I think one major reason is that we're all close to the same age, but we also each had our own character established. When we had free time, we played games together and had fun, and I think I was able to spend a happy time on set. When filming was finished earlier than planned, we went out together and grabbed something to eat.

How I use my time in the morning? When I wake up, my mood is neither good nor bad. Well, when I have a day off I don't get up. *laughs* (Potato: In the June issue, Nishikido-kun said you set the alarm clock even though you had put in ear plugs, is that true?) Hahaha, that's true! But it's not like I'm always doing this. I do it when I'm spending the night at a hotel or a place I don't know. Maybe I wanted to feel safe when going to sleep at that time? Since I don't want to think about having to get up the next morning in these situations.

Returning to the topic of time in the morning, when I'm doing a dorama, I do my utmost to be ready to go out 15 minutes after getting up. What I do in those 15 minutes? First, I sit on my bed for ten minutes. Then I tell myself "Okay, do your best today too!" and get up from the bed. Then I wash my face, brush my teeth, get changed and am ready to go! Like that. *laughs* I don't eat breakfast. Preparation of clothes happens in the morning. It gets on my nerves having to wonder what I'm going to wear, so I mostly just pick whatever is lying on top in my closet. That's why I go out in a sweatshirt from time to time. *laughs*

As for my schedule, I usually just ask my manager "Tomorrow, when?" I don't have a time planner, so I just keep it in my head. I'm probably the type to take timing pretty loosely. When I'm meeting with my friends, I'm mostly five or six minutes late. But really, we don't set a fixed time. It's more like, "around three". Of course, when it comes to my job, I'm never late. Hey, I was totally on time today as well! *laughs*

Koyama Keiichirô

"For the first time I understood what it means not to have time for yourself"

Until the curtain lifted for "Highschool Musical", my days were a repetition of going to rehearsal, going home, going to rehearsal, going home. *laughs* When rehearsal was over and I went back home, it was around midnight, then I would watch the video of that day's rehearsal and think about possible improvement, until around half past two. *laughs* Then, sleep. Then, ah it's already morning... , that's what my life looked like for more than a month. It's a well-regulated life. Aren't there a lot of people who say "I don't have time for myself"? Until now, I always wondered if they really were that busy, but after this experience I can now say that I honestly understood what it means not to have time for yourself. *laughs* But I'm feeling sooo fulfilled. To have so many things to do, at the end of the day I really feel "I've lived today".

From the time when I get up in the morning until I leave the house, it takes around 30 minutes. I can make it in 20 minutes, too, but for ten minutes I snuggle up in bed. During that time, I decide on the clothes I'm going to wear. I don't want to compromise. For example, when rehearsal is over, sometimes we go and have dinner somewhere. Since I don't want to be underdressed, I do my best in that regard. *laughs* But, I'm really having a lot of fun at the moment. It feels as if it's going ??? [Sorry, the kanji is too blurry here, can't read] inside of me right now.

On the point of being exactly on time, I'm always five to ten minutes late. *laughs* Actually, I recently made a friend of mine wait for five hours. He's a really nice guy, but for the first time he got angry. Since I felt very bad about it, I treated him to yakiniku.

I used to write down my appointments in a time planner, but lately I just keep them in mind. Because, if I were to write down all the times for rehearsal, that would be quite a bit of work. But I liked writing down my appointments and later looking at them, thinking, "Woah, I worked so hard!" If I still kept a time planner, I'd be totally satisfied with myself! *laughs* That's why I'll probably start keeping one again when the performances are over.

Nishikido Ryô

"The best way to use your time is to enjoy it whatever you do"

I use my time effectively. Even in the middle of the tour, I'm meeting my friends and have something to eat with them, and I'm going to amusement parks. I'm having fun doing lots of different things!

The trick to using your time effectively? It's enjoying yourself, whether you're eating, walking down the street or working! No matter how efficient you're managing your time, if you don't enjoy it, it goes to waste. Well, ultimately it boils down to not sleeping. *laughs* My average sleeping time lately amounts to four hours. But I think doing fine comes from already enjoying yourself when you wake up. And sometimes, I sleep like a log. When I was 18, I once slept for 25 hours, but nowadays my limit seems to be 15 hours. Two weeks ago. *laughs* Sometimes I think, "It would have been good if I could have used that time for something else", but it's because of these long hours of sleeping that I can use so much of my precious time, right? Recently I even thought, "I had a great time!" after doing my best at the gym which I absolutely hate. It's because I get this feeling of accomplishment. *laughs*

In the morning, the time I need until I leave the house ranges from five minutes to two hours! The five minutes happen when I overslept and am woken up by the phonecall from the manager. *laughs* When I need to hours, I've already spent the evening before leisurely and know that the next day will look equally relaxed. I do the laundry, the dishes, clean everything and then go out. A day like this happens once every two weeks.

Though I'm usually on time for my jobs, I'm don't know how it is when I go out to have fun. Because I don't make appointments. I can't do "Tomorrow, where and what time?", I just can do "Where should we meet now!" Since maybe my mood has changed and I don't feel like going out the next day. Because of this mentality, I don't keep a time planner. I have everything memorized. If possible I finish my job quickly and use the time for playing guitar. Time is limited, so you have to make the best of every second.

Katô Shigeaki

"I decided that everyone will forgive me for being two minutes late"

I think I'm using my time efficiently, but sometimes I laze about. *laughs* But I do think I'm the type to make the best use of his time. Lately I'm always doing something, watching a DVD or reading a book. And I also think about my role in the dorama "Papa to musume no nanokakan" (TBS, every Sunday on 21:00). During the time on the train when I'm going to school, I sleep or I read. But sometimes I sleep too much. I honestly want to become someone who gets by with five hours a night. No matter how much I sleep, I'm always sleepy.

The time I need in the morning until I can go out? Basically about one hour! I get up at seven in the morning. Then I eat breakfast for about 15 minutes. For everything else, I need 30 minutes. That leaves 15 minutes. Because I want to take things slowly during that time, I fall asleep again. *laughs* Then I get up again and brush my teeth for five minutes. Though I decide on what to wear in the morning, it usually takes me around ten minutes. I find it really hard to decide on something. It's like I'm a girl in that matter! *laughs* That's why I pick out my clothes in the evening before on days when I absolutely cannot be late. When I go out and don't like the clothes I'm wearing, I go back home and change. Even if I'm just wearing the wrong shoes, I go back. For example, on the first day of a job, I want to wear stylish clothes so that I can feel at ease.

I started to keep a time planner recently. It has a black cover and lists both the month and the weeks. I'm still not used to writing in it, so though I write down in the month schedule, the week schedule is still blank, since I don't know what to write down there. *laughs* Well, I chose it since I like how it looks. Whether I'm punctual? Not really. But I've settled on this. I'm always two minutes late. *laughs* When I take one train earlier, I'm at the meeting place ten minutes earlier than I need to be, so I have to wait. That's why I decided that everyone will forgive me for being two minutes late. *laughs*

Masuda Takahisa
[Note: I don't guarantee that the translation is 100% correct, since Massu's part was yellow script on a turquoise background, making it really hard to read, especially with the white dots floating around. I had to guess at some kanji. But I think most of it is okay.]

"Everyone in NEWS is harsh when it comes to other people's time! *laughs*"

I may be the type who doesn't use his time effectively... Even when I think I want to go shopping on a day off, I hang around the house until the evening, and then I just have one hour to look at things before the stores close. But when I have work from five in the evening onwards, I go there after going shopping in the morning, then, when it ends around six, I shop for another one or two hours. So in a way I am diligent when it comes to that.

In the morning, I need around one and a half hours until I can go out. I take a shower, dry my hair, slowly eat breakfast and decide on what clothes to wear. But sometimes I don't have any pants to match a new shirt and I end up getting stuck in my decision, there are also times like this. *laughs* When I want to decide quickly, I start from deciding on pants and shoes.

Personally I think I'm punctual, but my manager tells me I'm always ten minutes late. *laughs* Everyone is late now and then, but when they're on time, they don't forgive anyone else for being late. I'm that way too. *laughs*

As for my work schedule, I enter it into my cellphone. But I don't usually enter my private plans. Since I can't remember other people's birthdays, I enter them into my cellphone, too. Recently I've started wondering what would happen if I were to lose my phone. I'm also pretty relaxed about meetings since I just assume that I can always reach the other party through their mobile. But if it boils down to it, five o'clock means five o'clock! is what I think would be good to decide upon. It's really bad if you think, ah six is also okay.

I'm really happy that recently a lot of people tell me that Tegomass' "Kiss ~Kaerimichi no love song~" is a good song. I want to do even more as Tegomass, and it would be great if this becomes somehow useful for NEWS as well. Tegoshi and I got really excited talking about how interesting it would be to do a concert as Tegomass. *laughs*

Tegoshi Yûya

"When I'm running five minutes late, I say I'm ten minutes late"
[Note: Again with the yellow text on turquoise background... but this scan is better, so I think it's mostly alright.]

When I have a day off, I use my time to either hole up at home or go out and have fun. *laughs* When I stay home, I usually sing and play guitar or a soccer game. But I go out more than I stay home. I have tea together with friends or I go for a drive. And sometimes I go out shopping with no definite purpose in mind. I have certain shops I shop at, but I do look at other stores as well.

When I'm doing a dorama, I need ten minutes in the morning. I brush my teeth, wash my face, put on my glasses and a cap and go. Since I don't have time to put in my contacts, I wear glasses in the morning. When I'm just going out or have work beside dorama, I need about 30~40 minutes. The reason why I need 20 minutes longer than when I do dorama is that during a dorama, I feel like wanting to sleep longer. When I just do normal work, I also eat breakfast and I put in my contacts at home. And I sleep twice. *laughs* I set the alarm to ten minutes earlier than I have to get up. When it rings, I get up and stop it, then I sleep for another ten minutes. During dorama filming, I also sleep when I'm in the make up. Maybe it's just a feeling, but I feel that my head is clearer when I sleep twice. *laughs*

Concerning my schedule, privately I just leave it to the occasion. But for work I ask my manager and enter the schedule into my cellphone. And I also write it down in a calendar at home for my family. Whether I'm punctual? Depends. I'm never very late, but I'll be sure to be five minutes late. For example, if I'm to meet someone at ten o'clock, I look on my cellphone for a train which arrives at ten sharp where I want to go. That doesn't include the time I need for walking to our meeting place, of course. *laughs* But when I want to arrive five minutes earlier, I have to take a train which arrives 15 minutes before the meeting time. And when I'm five minutes late, I call and apologize and say that I'll be ten minutes late. That way, my partner is left with the feeling that I've arrived early. I'm clever, aren't I? I'm not studying psychology at uni for nothing. *laughs*

You're always so fast at translating the newest articles~ Thank you! ^^

Koyama seems like he's really overworked but he still manages to view it really positivly! Thats a really good thing~

Because I want to take things slowly during that time Most of them take about. .15 minutes to get ready. . i have no idea how they can do that! haha how can they do everything so fast?? Shige and Massu takes the longest time haha i take about an hour to get ready in the mornings too. .

Shige seems like he can fall asleep almost anywhere XDD He has a habit of falling asleep on trains XDD

And when I'm five minutes late, I call and apologize and say that I'll be ten minutes late. That way, my partner is left with the feeling that I've arrived early. I'm clever, aren't I? I'm not studying psychology at uni for nothing
