A Story For Shige's Birthday
Jul. 11th, 2007 07:50 pmI have a little story to share with everyone in honor of Shige's big 20. :) It's just a little tidbit I though fellow fans might enjoy, so here goes:
At my college, there is a large number of Japanese exchange and four year students. During this past year, I had a class with a girl who is going to be a sophomore this year. We got on the subject of music and how I like Japanese music. I told her I liked a lot of the Johnny's bands, and she said "Oh, I used to go to school with a Johnny's boy." Trying not to squeal like a fangirl, I asked her who it was, and she said it was Shige! They were apparently in the same year but in different classes at the same school. I asked her what it was like going to school with an idol boy and she said that most people just treated him like a normal student and didn't make a big deal out of it. However, she said that, at one of the school's festivals, a group of really excited girls from another school came and wanted to see Shige and they made a bit of a fuss about the matter. She didn't say whether or not they ever got to see Shige because she was too busy working at the festival to see what happened.
And that's my little Shige story. I'm wondering if those girls ever did find Shige. If they did, how can it be that he doesn't think he has fans? Silly Shige, of course you have fans! :)
Hope someone enjoyed this story. I personally like hearing fun facts about idols like this, and I hope you did too. :)
And finally, Happy 20th birthday Shige! Congrats on becoming an adult (though you've acted like one for a while now lol).
P.S. One of the suggestions LJ spell check gives for Shige is shag. Darn LJs trying to make me think dirty thoughts about him! (not that it's that hard to get me to do that... >.<;)

Date: 2007-07-12 12:18 am (UTC)One of the things that amazes me is how most jap idols can still lead normal lives such as going to school, college etc. walk in the streets, take the trains and NOT get mobbed by fangirls! I don't think that works the same way with western celebs right? think of all the people watching Britney get her head shaved etc. etc. ^^;;
and I agree Shige DOES have fans! cause I'm one of them! XD

Date: 2007-07-12 12:35 am (UTC)That's something I find fascinating too. I've heard some stories about KAT-TUN having trouble with some fans following them and such, but I've never heard anything as bad as the stuff that happens in America. I think some of it might have to do with the culture aspects and how the west (especially America) is all about being in your face and getting what you want, where as Japan is more about the group and being really polite. That's just my speculation though.
Yeah, Shige has a special place with me because, along with YamaPi, he was the first boy in NEWS whose name I was able to remember. YamaPi was easy because his name was everywhere in the teen magazines at the time because Dragon Zakura was on at the time. Shige's though, was because a quiz I took in one of the magazines told me I was Shige's type of girl, so I felt connected to him right away. :)

Date: 2007-07-12 01:02 am (UTC)Anyway with the fans thing. I did notice in general most japanese girls are kinda conservative. Like if it's a guy they like, they tend to stand a distance away and rather 'admire from afar' sort of thing rather than go up and talk to them. It is probably a culture thing I guess. I'm glad though cause I'd want the JE guys to have as much as a normal life as possible too so it's ok with me. Yay for jap culture! XD
btw your friend went to Aoyama Gakuin? That's a really good school. I was once searching for good high schools to go on exchange to so I knew Shige's school before I knew Shige went there! ^o^
